    Jigswap #38 Signups

Wel, I guess I'll take swap #38. Might have to pull out my pouring painting supplys, been 2 yrs. Let's have sign ups till the end of August, try to have them mailed by September 15th. 2 jigs per person, including yourself  (makes them easier to sort). Let's do 1/16th max, favorite pattern.  No...

    Lead Source

Does anyone know of a good source for lead? I am looking to get a little more, and might start pouring some bullets, once I buy a black powder gun. Been getting some from ebay, sometimes can find it for about $1.25 per lb shipped.

    A few I tied today

Here are a few I tied today. I painted and eyed a few hundred heads in various colors. Plan to tie me up a few more this next weekend.

    Thinning seal coat?

I use the do-it uv seal coat to coat my jigs. Does anyone know how I should go about thinning it? The rest of my 4oz container looks like thick snot and curious if I can thin it? Supposedly water based, so could I with just a little water?

9'6" Jigging Rod - Finish Issues

I just built me up a 9'6" Crappie jigging rod. I used the MHX 1142 steelhead blank. I had a little issue with the thread finish. I was using the FlexCoat High Build, and it never did completely dry. It was still real "tacky" feeling at places. I was thinking maybe it was from the humidity...

    A Few From Last night

Here are a few 1/32 and 1/24ths I tied up last night. Pictures don't quite show the glitter in the heads. I really like the silver crystal material a few of us ordered custom.

Fly blank for crappie jigging pole

I am thinking of building me another 9' crappie jigging pole, and investigating using a fly blank. Does anyone have any experience using fly blanks as crappie jig rods, and what line weight blank would be best. My first 9' pole is a MHX-1081 steelhead blank. It is a sweet rod, but a little too...

    A few 1/16 oz ponies

Here are a few 1/16 oz ponies I tied up with my modified pinned mold. Come out pretty good, I think?

    Pinned eyes

Well, I pinned up my pony mold and my round head mold. Came out good. Recessed a couple of the 1/16th pins to give a hammer head look. Might work, look like the minnows that get the bulge eye. My aquarium fish get from time to time.

    7' Light Spinning Rod

Figured I would post a few pics of the 7' Light Spinning I have been working on. Used the same thread as my last. Planning on using it for casting roadrunners this spring, and some jigging. The first one, the 9', is one sweet rod. Didn't catch a fish on it the one time out, but it will get...

    Mold modification

Has anyone modified their own RR mold to accept eyes? I got a pic from LedHead, and was curious if anyone else has modified their own? I took it to a machine shop, but he didn't seem interested. I was going to drill them out with a drill press with a 12 gauge bit for 1/8" dowel pins for 3mm...

    ==>>>>Jigswap #21 - ***Signups are over***

Well guys, had some great jigs in swap #20, but I am ready for #21. Seems the only time I find time for tying is when I have to for a swap. Everyone knows you can not go wrong with a little chartreuse on a jig. Lets do a swap with trying to do something with a little touch of chartreuse, but...

    Rod Blank Suggestions?

I was going to build me a 7' spinning rod for casting ponies and maybe some vertical jigging. Should I go with a 1-piece UL blank, MHX-841 (2-6 lb) or the light (4-8) MHX-842? Also, has anyone used the nano guides on a spinning rod? Was thinking of using a #16, #8, #4 fly, then 8 #2 nanos...

The Mean Green Crappie Catching Machine

Well finished up my rod. Spiral wrapped the first 3 guides. Here's a few pics. The finish is still a little tacky, but it's a 9' for crappie jigging. Put marks at 6" intervals for depth measurements. I know, I got the label a little crooked. Next thing is to see how it fishes. Too bad...

    Balance

Well, I got my replacement blank today and epoxied up the handle. How is this for balance? I still have 3 guides and to put wrap finish on, so it still might end up a little tip heavy, but should turn out to be a pretty good 9' jig rod for my first build.

    Best crappie jigging blank?

I'm curious, what is a really good 8-9' crappie jigging blank? Are fly rods good? If so! What weight? I wanted a SCV, but didn't want to fork over $240 on my first rod. Heard people suggest rain shadow rx7 & 8, but been getting my stuff from Mudhole, and they don't sell them. Curious how this...

    A Couple questions

I have a couple questions about building a rod. First, how do you go about sizing the tip? I bought the tip (4.5, 1.8mm tube) that it showed on the rod specs, but it doesnt quite fit. Just curious if you size your tip a little big? Second thing is, the rod blank looks like it has some...

    Crappie Craw

Here is a Craw jig I tied for a jigswap. Should be good on rock banks during the spawn.

    Building your own rod?

I am thinking of making me a 10' crappie jigging rod. Been looking around on mudhole, st croix, and just on the web. I never made a rod before, and just curious what would be a good blank to use for a 8-10 ft crappie vertical jigging rod? What other things will I need and do you think I would...
