Old Vise Id.

I was going through a bunch of old gear my wife's uncle had and came across what I assume is a fly tying vise . I can't find anything on google images that looks like it and am wondering if anyone here can help me out .If indeed it is a fly tying vise at all . (It will work as one but that may...

    Glue heads

So... I got this bright idea this morning that hot melt glue would make a great jig head material. I got the old mold out and went to work . It was pretty simple , no need to pre heat the mold just heat the gun up and squirt in the glue . Sets up a bit slower than lead but seemed to work fine...

    Lead score

Been a while since I posted here but I thought I would share my big score I got last week from the local tire shop. Managed to get 5 pails of wheel weight for 40 bucks.:) After sorting them and separating the zinc and steel weights , I ended up with 380 lbs of clip on lead 100 lbs of soft stick...

I made these up for a fellow that told me they were all he uses for Walleye and he couldn't find them anymore. I made up 25 for him . 1/4oz rnd head, 1/0 sickle hook, yellow marabou .Also a single yellow duck feather tied on the hook first to help flair the Marabou. Tied with red thread and...

    Grouse perch

I am a avid hunter and love nothing more than to get out and chase a few Ruffies. I thought a tail feather from one might make fairly acceptable perch imitation.Although i think in future I would add the bucktail over the feather to give it a more natural look. [/img]

    Burbot/Eelpout/Freshwater cod

I am planning to go Ice fishing this weekend and would like to target some Burbot/ eelpout etc , lots of names for this fish. I am wondering if anyone on here has fished them and if you have a suggested pattern for tying up some jigs that might work well?

    Dyed in the wool

I though I would give a try at dying some of the wool I have just to see how it looks. I was pretty happy with the result and can see that it will make different colors easier to get hold of without having to have a pile of bags of the stuff .I can buy some basic white and go from there. This I...

    Tying Vice

This is a vice I made and use to tie 1/4 and 1/2 oz jigs. The basic idea is there but you could build heavier if you like. I plan to make the clamping bar a bit heavier in future as it does tend to flex a little if I really tighten it down hard, I used a piece of 7/16 round stock and ground it...

    What makes an effective jig

My first way of thinking when I decided i wanted to start tieing my own jigs was that I needed to hide or bury the hook with hair and feathers in order for it to be effective . It needed to undulate in the water like something alive and that would be a sure fire recipe for success. as I watch...

    Curly Sue

So I picked up a bag of this wool today (pictured below) down at the local knitting shop and it is called "English Leicester Rainbow died" It is very curly and soft ..I thought it would make an interesting jig body and with multiple colors it would be easy to experiment with. I tied this one...
