Altho I'm pushing 100 molds practically all for others, for my own tying just one suffices for my limited needs . I would recommend these for a newbie pourer as not only a good start but useful tools for life.

In addition to the excellent Mustad 32833 heavy wire hooks the molds will also accept light wire hooks of appropriate sizes, shank bending to fit if needed. The exit angles of shanks from the hook slots don't matter as long as the molds properly close tightly. Of course there is a limit to fitment of over or undersize hooks deviating from Do-t specs.

Worth mentioning that I'm a full time cast & retrieve angler, and don't know if the slightly forward of center hook eye position could be detrimental for vertical hanging presentations.

I'm sure I have that mold still wrapped in the plastic it came in.

I use two molds equally for my fishing. Production 1/8th oz ballhead and a SWM mold heavily modified.

Thank you Hawn, this looks perfect for my commercial boolies. I got the "precision" mold that does not fit the steelhead hooks I prefer.

Not sure about others, but I have moved from matzuo to eagle claw little naztys, in size #2....

Not like you had a choice since Matzuo tanked, and for a crappie hook Nastys are OK. I like #2 also for pinning 2" softies but prefer heavier wire for the lurking in the shadows nasties here.

I don't know, nasty's seem to hold up ok for shadow stuff... 34 lbs.

And I do have a choice with an inventory on hand.

Light wire hooks will practically always hold up to fresh water surprises, yesterday snagged a dorsal fin on a flattie bout the size of yours and the #2 Mustad 32746 got er dun tho took awhile to get close enuf to pull the hook. And yes, Lil Nastys feel pretty solid testing for bend out, tho not nearly as sturdy as 32833 2x.

Luckily had my 8# gear for the flattie surprise, my usual 4# for cold season canal would have been a chore chasing down current over steep rip rap bank.

I’m using much smaller than you guys. Seems lately that I’m fishing as light as I can find braid and a 4 lb leader or 10lb braid with a 25lb leader in the salt. The fresh gets most of my stuff done on a #8 sickle that comes from a do it 1/32 pro mold at 1/43. Started with some Matzuos I had left from back in the day and now that they’re gone I’m having trouble finding more of that size. Ordered 500 from Barlows and got sixes labeled eights, I’m less than happy. But the little hooks are doing good work for me. If I get a solid point to bury the point I land the fish. Haven’t gotten any cats over about six pounds like you guys but my big tilapia that I posted about was extra tough. All on my little rods and hooks. If anyone knows a reliable source for #8 sickles I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks in advance.

Can't speak for the #8, but I like the #6 Victory "sickle" which is pretty close to the Matzuo config.
