    Custom chatterbaits

I haven't posted in awhile so I thought I would show some of my chatterbaits since some recent posts had them up. I modified my 3/8 Poison tail mold to take a flat eye hook specifically for this type of bait. Tails are a new material by Wapsi called Awesome Possum zonkers that I special order...

    Bass baits

These are black bear hair with a little opposum and flash for contrast. Wire guard jigs are 1/8, propeller baits are 1/4 oz., I painted the blades on them.

    Crappie baits

2019 was a really good year for me crappie fishing, lot's of 11-13's with some 14+ inchers, didn't break the 15 inch mark this year. Here are some of the baits used.  I haven't fished the propeller baits in a few years but gave some to a buddy and he slayed some slabs fishing them under a float...

    PB BLUEGILL

I fished with Sonny for six days at Lake Perris and caught several PB gills over 11" including this one, just a couple meals away from 12" long that had a girth of close to 16", over 2 lbs. I was using duck jigs tied on #4 Orient Sun jig hooks. These hooks are super sharp and had no issue with...

    Gill trip

I'm heading out to California tomorrow for a shot at some Coppernose bluegill. Lake Perris is giving up a lot of 10-11 inch fish right now. Will post pics when I get back.

    Craft hair Underspins

I made these yesterday since we got iced up and I couldn't go on my morning walk. These are 1/4 oz. and were tied using 4/0 Trokar jig hooks using craft hair, saddle hackle with flash. Hope to catch some hybrid stripers once we get some warmer weather.

    New favorite crappie jig

I've had great success with this jig from big redear and gills to trout and have been starting to catch some nice crappie as well since it has gotten cooler including this fat 15 incher. I lost another one pushing 18 inches on the previous cast when the hook pulled. Lake is 1.1 miles from my...

    Grizzly marabou mini jigs

I'm still catching with these so I'm still tying them. 1/64 now on #10 lil nasty or #12 sickle hooks. Think the little sickles hook better but both have been doing the job on redear, gills, bass, catfish and carp if they wouldn't break me off.

    Micro chub jigs

I've been fishing these for 10 of the last 12 days at a park lake close to my home and have been having a blast catching bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and big redears. The Redear have been averaging close to 11" and over 1 lb. Releasing everything so far but may keep a few soon. Warmer...

    Old buggers

These are pictures taken before I got my first digital camera. Kind of a blast from the past that my wife found when going through some old pictures. Paper on back said October 16,1998 so almost 20 years ago. I liked the big eyes I made with the vinyl paint, don't use it anymore. Took pictures...

    PB Largemouth

Really nice day here for February so I decided to fish for a few hours before the rain comes back. Water at the lake was still  fairly clear even with all the rain we got recently so I stayed with the black hair jig with flash that I had been using this year.  I saw a large dark spot out  in the...

    HERRING UNDERSPIN BUNNY'S

These are the biggest I've made so far ranging in size from 3/8-5/8th oz. on 6/0 mustad ultrapoints. Painted them last year and just got around to tying them now. Getting a lot of rain here which we needed so spending time at my desk hoping to see the sun again, been 5 days now. Really like how...

Quick tutorial on tying with craft hair

Still fired up about fishing yesterday so thought I'd show a few pics on how I prepare jigs before I tie and maybe a pointer or two on tying with it. These are 3/32 Herring heads without the spin portion. I like to flatten the barbed collar and make it as round as possible and shave off any...

    Jig fishing for winter bass

I got out this afternoon and with water at just above freezing was surprised anything was biting but happy they were. Everything caught was on craft hair jigs in 3/32 with a #1 Gamakatsu 114 jig hook. Colors were black or custom gray glow with flash down the sides, two strands. Caught 14 in...

    Matzuo

I heard they filed bankruptcy and the hooks are going to be scarce for awhile. Heard this from two retailers so far. Might be time to switch over to the lil nasty Eagle claw sickles. Might start checking prices since I'm low on some sizes. What do you think about this? I'm not surprised with the...

    Trilobal Antron chenille

This is probably my favorite chenille to tie with, makes great tight bodies. About 8 years ago I bought 300 yards off ebay for $75 and it lasted me six years. For the past couple years I've been buying retail packs for $2.50 for 4 yards. I got tired of this so inquired about getting another...

    Glow craft hair

I tie a lot of jigs with craft hair but one color I've never seen is glow in the dark. A product  made here in the states by seicrafts.com is a glow spray that you spray on materials, allow to dry and color sets permanently when put in the dryer. I followed the steps but put it in microwave for...

    VARIETY

This is just some of the jigs I've been playing with since all this cold weather hit. Jigs with metallic eyes I call aliens, plated heads with  Grizzly micro legs and more bunnys or craft hair. And a few Tailgunners.
