    Grenada Lake Slab Jigs

I'm going on a 4 day fishing trip to Grenada Lake on the 29th. I've been tying some big jigs for the big mouths up there. These are 1/4 oz walleye heads on #1 sickles with magnum rabbit zonker. The Magnolia Crappie Club had a tourney at Grenada last Saturday and the winners had over 18 lbs for...

    Today's Catch

A neighbor went with me spider rigging jigs this morning. The wind has gotten better this week. We kept 35 nice crappie and only fished for 4 hrs. Here's the first two we caught. This is Steve. Here's what wouldn't fit on the ironing board.

    Found Something That Works

I picked up some black silicone type gasket stuff at the local hardware store to give it a try. I'm wanting to turn my walleye head mold into a collarless mold. This stuff will handle temps up to 500 deg and it stays pliable. Here's the outcome. I poured all of these and the mold held up...

    The Wabbit Jig Works

I got on the lake at 6:30 this morning and the wind was only about 10 mph. At around 8:30 it was blowing closer to 20. I was fishing 9 ft deep over brush tops on the edge of a creek channel. The females had eggs coming out of them. I quit at 9:00 with 24 keepers.

    Few New Ones

I played around a little tonight with my horse head mold and poured a few without the swivel to tie as jigs. The egg head jig is from my Palmer mold. I used black cactus chenille and rabbit zonker.

The Crappie Are Spawning In Dixie

A buddy and I tried to fight the wind today and spider rig jigs. We were at Okatibbee Reservoir in east central MS. We were fishing 10 to 12 fow hitting stumps and brush tops on the lip of a creek channel. The males are turning black now and some boats were catching crappie in 2 fow. We fished...

    Palmer 553 Mold

I saw where Stump Hunter was talking about his Palmer 552 mold, well my wife bought me a 553 mold at a flea market for a quarter. After using Do-It molds, I'm wondering if a quarter was too much. Lol I had to get out the Dremell to modify it to accept a #2 sickle. It still takes a lot of filing...

    Melting My Wheel Weights

When I got the wheel weights, they weighed 48 lbs in the bucket. Here they are in the pot. The smoke does stink!

    Mold Modification

I used some craft clay of my wife's to fill in the collars on my walleye head mold. There's still a little lead behind the head but now it's easy to remove. My pouring table in my shop.

    Chartreuse/Orange

A buddy and I went fishing Monday and caught 23 nice crappie. We were spider rigging jigs along the edges of a creek channel in a local reservoir. The two hot colors were chartreuse and orange. I tied a few tonight using both colors but I don't know which ones I like the best.

    Mold Help Needed

Well I finally got my hooks and I'm pouring jigs. My collarless round head mold needed a little Dremell work. I had to extend the hook eye socket out a little so sickle hooks would fit right. It works perfectly now. On my Walleye Head mold the 1/8 oz cavity allows lead into the hook eye. I need...

    Stick-on Wheel Weights

I just bought 46 lbs of stick on wheel weights from a local scrap yard. They are soft lead, I can scratch them easily with my fingernail. They have a sticky glue foam pad on the back for sticking to the inside of rims. Should I melt them in a pot, other than my pouring pot, and flux with candle...

    New Combos

It's funny the combos you can come up with when you're bored. lol I can't pour till I get my hooks and I can't fish till the wind lets up a little.

    My First Pours

Im still waiting on my #1s and #2 red sickles to get here but I had some 2/0 jig hooks that Hunter had sent me. So I poured some 1/4 oz walleye heads with them. Some of them I left the barbed collar and some I removed for tying. I'll post another pic or two after tying them.

I Just Bit The Lead Bullet

I just ordered a Lee pot, an ingot mold, and two jig molds. Lord help me, just what I need, with the jig tying and crankbait painting I really need another hobby. Lol. The total order was 7 bucks cheaper from Barlow's than from Zeiner's. I got a walleye jig mold and a no collar round head mold...

    Alabama Rig

I watched FLW Outdoors on vs channel today and an old veteran, Paul Elias, won the tourney in Guntersville, AL in Oct. using the Alabama Rig. I've seen similar getups before, called umbrella rigs, but Paul used swim baits on this one, resembling a school of baitfish. His 20 fish for the tourney...

    Smaller Belly Spinners

I've gotten "hooked" on the belly spinners. These are on some of Hunter's 1/8 oz heads with a lot smaller blades. I'm thinking they should do well spider rigging just barely moving.

    Big Belly Spinners

I tied some belly spinners with 1/4 oz heads and 1/0 sickle hooks for those big mouth slabs at Grenada Lake. Hopefully the little extra flash will trigger a strike.
