I got everything packed up to ship - here are the picts
For my jig I took a pattern from a 1970 book
by Lacey E Gee and Erwin D Sias.  This style jig represents a connection to traditional fly tying that is often found in early jig tying techniques.  Interesting to note in the Gee, Sias (1970) book is the lack of eyes on all black jig head examples.  The Jig Fly as a pattern similar to a bucktail streamer, this lack of eyes, may be an attempt to mimic a streamers thread head.

Jig Fly
Head: 1/8 Ball
Thread: Black 2/0
Body: Yellow Chenille, Silver Tinsel
Wing: Black Bucktail
Tail: Red Calf Tail
Collar: Yellow Hackle

Great jigs from everyone who participated. Looking at the pictures again they don't do justice to Allen's jig where in the light the color really pops

Thank you, Jay!

I got my package yesterday. Just got a chance to open it up and look a few minutes ago. Everybody tied some nice jigs!

Photography tip: If you notice, I try to take as many pics as possible under natural sunlight. I know this just isn't possible for a lot of people.

Looking at them last night, I got a the jig fishing book Jay discussed with his jig in it - nice job too.

My jigs were from Red's jig on this sight, Billy Westmorland's description of a jig & fly, and an old timer's (RIP) simple bucktail on a plain unpainted jig head

Fun trip down memory lane

The jigs I tied up were inspired by the Intruder, a Steelhead fly. I had planned on fishing the first couple I did for Steelhead today.

Well, forget about that. As I was reading the MI fishing reg's, I came across a limitation on the size of hooks that can be used to catch fish "in rivers". Single-point hooks cannot be larger than 1/2" from point to shank. Guess what? Those jigs I used are about 5/8" from point to shank. I can only use those jigs for two months, June and July, which is when Steelies usually are NOT in the rivers.

If y'all decide to fish them, check your local reg's first. I don't know if your states will have similar reg's.

After a few emails with Michigan DNR the hook gap question on jigs and spinnerbaits comes into play during the time frames they have listed in the regulations book.  Outside of those periods AS LONG AS THERE IS NO COUNTY reg against it that hook gap rule doesn't apply.

The single hook ½” regulation applies from Aug. 1 - May 31.

He was really quick getting back and answering my questions.  Man with these type rules hook makers are gonna be happy.

I'm actually glad you mentioned it, my grand daughter always fish's here when she visits and wants to go fishing there when we go out to visit, this will help keep me out of trouble!!!
