For those that make jigs and rods for a living

I'm contemplating making jigs, flies, and rods as a way to supplement my income. I'm wondering, does anyone here do this as a full time job? If so, how did it come about? How much R&D did you put in before you actually started to sell? I have previously owned and operated a clothing company...

    Hammered the walleye

Crawler harnesses with minnows and crawlers, 4 guys had our limits by noon! Fished till 5 and it was so good all day. Felt bad for everyone else we met who only caught a few all day.

    Tying scuds

I decided to try my hand at scuds tonight. Seemed easy enough, until I tried fastening the scud back. It drove me crazy! Is there something that I'm missing? It just slips all over the place when trying to lash it down in the front.

    Zonker leech question

When tying these, is it imperative that you use cross cut zonker for the body? I've read articles and watched videos and there's definitely no set in stone way to tie these, but just wondering if cross cut is that much better than regular. Thanks

    Fly hooks

With the insane amount of hook styles, sizes, and brands. Are there any that are a standard? It seems most people probably have their own preferences as well.

Going to do an experiment soon

Went fishing for perch yesterday, and threw all my newly made jigs at them, only to be rejected. A good ol jig head and a minnow were the ticket. I got to wondering a few things. Was it just the wrong kind of jigs? Why bother tying jigs of you just end up tipping them with real bait? I...

Can you use flys on a spinning rod?

This may be a dumb question, but since I don't know, I'll ask. Can you use flys on a spinning rod? There are so many cool flys I'd like to try but I'm not a fly fisherman. And seeing the flys that have lead wrapped in them got me thinking, "Are they heavy enough to use on a spinning rod?"

    Peak buyers remorse

I just dropped $260 (Canadian) On a peak rotary with a bunch of accessories. I haven't even tried it, but I already have buyers remorse a little bit. I haven't really been tying lately due to frustration with my current setup. A pair of Vise grips on a table clamp. I'm thinking that a real...

    Air compressor question

I've been looking at buying an air compressor and a nail gun for small jobs around the house. My girlfriend is very crafty, and we are going to be reupholstering the couch, and she has a bunch of Pinterest projects that she wants us to do. What's a good size compressor to buy? Right now I can...

What setup for small jigs 1/32 and lower

I'm curious as to what type of rig people are using when casting these teeny tiny jigs. I would assume, an ultra light rod with light test line, and split shots or a casting bubble or are you using fly rods at that point?

    Pike jigs?

Plans have changed for this weekend and I am now going pike fishing. I've never actually targeted pike before so I'm not sure what to tie. Did a little search on Google and it seems like zonker streamers are the go to. Anyone have info on materials, patterns, jig head weight? Thanks, Derek

    Thread

I've been using 3/0 uni thread for tying, and I'm not really very happy with it. It frays really easy and it's not very strong. What should I switch to?

    Some gill/crappie candy

I'm gonna be going out for crappie next weekend and then blue gill the weekend after, so I thought I'd tie these up. Used uv dubbing on the chart, and black/red.
