No-action tails are my backups/ paddle tails are now one of my favorites

My newest no-action tail creations is centered on small size/ pill shape. To accomplish that, I messed around with cutting the skirt off two tubes and joining the bodies together with a flame. The black tips were on the front of the tubes. Unsteady retrieves give the lure the dart & glide that triggers strikes.


The Runcl swimbait has proven itself this summer. The reason I think it blows away the Sassy Shad boot tail is its thin body that quivers beautifully! Fish of all sizes smack this lure including a 3 lb. bass recently caught:

I have a ton of Sassy Shad lures and happened to figure: what if I trimmed the bottom of the lure to make it slimmer. Sure enough, it caught fish like crazy!
I'll post an example tomorrow. The slim swimbait is still more of a steady retrieve lure, but rigged on a 1/32 oz jig, it moves slow, quivering all the way!

Yah, long ago when the only boot tails available mass market were Sassy Shads I too trimmed off the bellys to more closely match the more even tapered profiles of Hawaii baitfish. Back then tho I preferred twister tails and later Lunker City Fin-S-Fish with realistic 2 tone lam colors.

Caught fish on all of them and probably could still - especially river smallies on yellow Mr Twisters.
Amazing how you can for no reason start fishing lures you haven't used for decades.
I had a 3" Slugo hanging around and caught fish on it after I reduced its length.

The Sassy Shad swimbait cut down worked great for all species:


The tube-pill caught many fish including this 3 lb bass:


All the above were caught on the same day - 64 in total form 11:30am - 3pm.
Semi cloudy and calm water.
