Browsing all of the great stuff on this site inspired me to break out the jig molds and tying stuff that has been collecting dust. Thanks to all.

Big Howdy from Deep East Texas. Glad you got all the old equipment dusted off and up and tying again. Enjoy the site and don't be afraid to chime in. We don't bite but we sure hope the fish do.

Welcome from NW Ohio and some good looking bucktail jigs. Have some details about what size they are and what you plan on catching with them?

Thanks everyone, it really is good to get back to it.

Didn't think about the details...
Style H Mold 3/8oz with 3/0 Mustad hooks and stick on eyes.

The White/Yellow/Olive is my Alewife imitation with white Protec white base and Pumpkin sprinkled on top.

The White/Grey/Blue is my Blue Back Herring imitation with Protec pearl white base and black sprinkled on top. (I have ordered blue)

These are my standby's for Stripers but have caught some really big smallies on the alewife one (one over 6 lbs).

When the wife saw me pulling out the lead pot she said no to the kitchen oven so she found me a toaster oven at the Goodwill for $6 to cure.

Hi and welcome from across the big pond!

Those are my standards, too, for cod fishing in rather deep water. Love to use them on a "dead" rod, just dangling in the rod holder while the kayak ist drifting and rocking them a little. This often gets me the biggest fish of the day while having a coffee break. I tie them rather long, too, and even a bit skinnier since we have no pork rinds over here to tip them with.

I´m planning to make a first attempt at sea bass this summer, so I find that very interesting. Can I ask in what kind of water you are fishing those stripers, and how exactly you fish for them?

In case you wonder, I live in a world with no hair jigs in it , and all I know is from John Skinner`s youtube bucktail videos and the great guys in this forum. :icon14:

Hey Bucho,

Most of my striper fishing has been big reservoirs (Smith Mountain Lake in VA) and the Chesapeake Bay. There are so many ways to fish this, but my most used and successful is basically a steady retrieve for water under 20 feet is counting down to the depth I want. If I use a trailer at all a spinnerbait trailer like the one below is all I use and try to match the predominant color of the hair (I really like the action it gives).

Rarely do I go deeper, but have caught them vertical jigging in water to about 80 feet. I have caught a few Sea Bass with them dropping to the bottom and winding up a crank or two and vertical jigging.

Hope that helps,

Bo

Don't use plastics anymore, but have used the EXACT pictured split tails in salt water with excellent results. Just attached one to a barb collar jig head and good to go.
