Tied this one to cast for muskies in my local reservoir. Total length is a shade over six inches. Based its name (Five-O-Diamonds) on my count of its red eyes and red beads. Counterpart, possibly, to a famous pike spoon.

Materials:
  • Northland Gum-Ball Jig (1/4-oz) with 1/0 red hook
  • Harbor Freight Powder Paint - yellow
  • Darice Gemz for eyes - red
  • Coats & Clark Trilobal Polyester Embroidery Thread (40-wt.) - temple gold
  • Faceted beads - yellow (7) and red (3)
  • Cousin Cord Basics 7-Strand 0.3mm Beading Wire - gold
  • Coastlock snap swivel - silver
  • Number 5 diamond Colorado blade - gold
  • FeatherCraft FlyFishing Flashabou - red
  • Westrim Craft Fur - red
  • Yellow craft fur from bolt
  • Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy for topcoat
Rather ultralight don't you think? ;)

Tied this one just a little while ago. Similar, but with red saddle hackles rather than red fur and flash. Blade is a plain gold #4 Colorado.

Thank you for your comments JM, LH, and QK. :)

These are very fun to make/tie. I really look forward to fishing them too.

Yup, looks "ultralight" for gator heads alright. Serious bragging rights if you land any with that light wire hook.

Thought I'd tack this photo onto this thread.

Tied this pike jig tonight. Pretty much had nothing in mind as I added materials to the jig's hook. Reached for Sulky Holoshimmer to finish the jig and I really like the result. Never before have I used it on a jig this large. Used the rotary function on my vise to make quick work of the wrap without a bobbin. I held the spool in my hand with the film (thread) tension controlled by squeezing together my middle and ring fingers.

I plan to use Holoshimmer more now that I've experienced wrapping it in rotary fashion rather than hand wrapping it with a bobbin.

Hey Pup how'd these jigs work out for you last year? I'm guessing my NM pike & 'skies would like em.

Thanks for your comments Bill and FM. :)

Bill,

I tied those for muskies in my local reservoir. Haven't had any luck so far. The reservoir isn't heavily populated with them (1350 were to be stocked @ 1 per acre in 2011) and many move out of the reservoir according to this study - Link.
