Tied up a few bucktails today, with a twist

Someone throw me a lifeline, for I feel I'm heading into unsafe waters! Over the weekend, I bought some Red and White powder paint from Harbor Freight, and built an alcohol lamp. I've been itching to try it out. These jigs pictured are the first jigs I grabbed out of my LMB jig/spinner box...

Tried my hand at some Wabbits

That, and I wanted to paint a few more jigheads. I'm quickly realizing why you all say painting is more addicting than tying. I used some 1/32 oz tube jigs (I have a bunch of them), painted them white, used some white rabbit zonkers for tails, that Candy Cane chenille, and a single piece of...

Does anybody do anything with tungsten?

First, I'm not sure if this post should go here, or over on the Hybrid Tackle forum. Mod's, feel free to move it if needed. I just read an older thread about using 2 oz sinkers to carry a 1/80 oz jig down to deep Bluegills. Has anybody here worked with Tungsten jigs? Or cheat, and do a...

    WTB 1/32 and/or 1/64 jigs...

preferably with sickle hooks. I need at least 50 total for an order a friend wants me to tie up. Knowing the way I tie, I'll probably need another 10 - 20 jigs, as any jigs that I feel aren't good enough to sell go into my own tackle box.

    Lamps?

Just read an old thread about making an alcohol lamp to heat jigs. Ok, that sounds good. Then I remembered my wife insists on keeping an old Hurricane Lamp "just in case". I just lit it and let it burn for a few minutes. I noticed there was quite a bit of heat coming out of the top. Can I...

    Some chickens...

I picked up some pink nail polish last week. Decided to do some Electric Chicken jigs. The tube jig heads are 1/32nd oz, and the balls are 1/8 oz. Hopefully I'll be able to get to the river soon and try them out.

    Oh boy, here we go.....

One of my local fishing buddies just dropped off 3 drake Mallards. Feathers! He left with a small baggie of Trout flies and micro-jigs, and a big ol' grin on his face.

A pink jig I did last night

This is probably a 1/80th jig, on a Matzuo Sickle hook, courtesy of our friend LedHed. Tail is pink marabou under duck flank feathers, red krystal flash, and some kind of pink chenille I found in my chenille bag. It's going swimming Wednesday. We'll see how the local Crappie like it.

    Fuzzy Auto 1/80th

I wanted to tie up a few smaller versions of that jig I did two days ago. I also have a bottle of green-glitter fingernail polish, so I painted a few heads, and the jigs on 1/80th, size 12 hooks. This is also the last of that color chenille. It's a Spirit River product, "Speckled Chenille...

    A "Fuzzy Auto" ???

Something I thought of today. I did the silli-legs kind of like LedHed's Auto jig, and used some green/gold chenille I have. Jig is a store-bought Arkie 1/64th. I filed off the grub-keeper barb, but left the rest of the lead collar. Definitely going to need some better jigs. I'm not set up...

    Those Matzuo Sickle Hooks....

Seem to be very popular with you all. Do they give a better hookup than a standard jig hook?

    Scrounger Jig Mold?

In the past year, I've started fishing Scrounger jigs. Mostly with soft plastic, but I have tied a Double-Bunny onto one. I love fishing those jigs, but the cost, oh my gosh! $5 for a pack with just a few jigs? Expensive!! I've looked in a few catalogs, but never found a mold for those. Of...

    Polishing molds?

I have three sinker molds. One is for bank sinkers, the other two are for split-shot. I know I should get the release spray that I've been reading about. I know that will definitely help with my split-shot. Should I get my Dremel and jeweler's rouge and polish up the cavities for any of my...

    Foxtail jig.

I bought a dyed-olive fox tail early this year. I've done a couple of these. I found some 1/80th jigs, size 10, painted gold. Tail is olive fox tail, some olive krystal flash, and the body is 70-denier red tying thread.

White and Chartreuse micro jig Mk II

I had a couple problems with the Mk I version. Tying in the hackle tips splayed, and keeping them aligned, is not easy. A lot of times, the hackles twist. Also, it's rather wasteful. I realized that I could just strip some hackle barbs from the shaft and tie that in as a tail. Here's what...

White and Chartreuse micro jig Mk I

A buddy of mine asked me if I could come up with an imitation of a Trout Magnet with a White/Chartreuse plastic body. Here's what I came up with: 1/80th head, size 12 hook. Chartreuse saddle hackle tips, tied splayed, chartreuse krystal flash, and white ostrich herl for the body. My buddy...

    Prototype Double Bunny jig

I've seen some NICE pics of Double Bunny streamers for fly fishing. Earlier this year, I decided to do one on a Scrounger jighead. No room for eyes, unfortunately. If I do any more, I'll use a collar of red ostrich herl instead of the red marabou for gills. I have fished it, a couple of...

    In-Line Spinners

I got started doing in-line spinnerbaits last year. I did it, because I love fishing Mepps spinners. However, I normally fish in some really "snaggy" areas, and at $5 a pop, that can get expensive, quick. Most of what I do are just size 0 (size 8 treble hook) imitations of a Mepps Aglia...

    Mantis Jig

I came up with this pattern in January of this year. I had been tying a soft hackle fly pattern, and thought that if I changed the hackle feather to something a little "softer", it might make an interesting jig. Pictured here is my pink and white version that I did for a friend. The original...

    Marabou Microjigs

Tied these up a year ago for stocker trout in one of my home lakes. 1/80th oz, size 10 hooks.
