Thin out a lot of deer in IL.....save a few tails. Need to save more. The texture is different (softer) and the hair is longer. Belly hair is also saved. Will trim down hair as necessary on below pics.

Just a hint instead of shortening the hair first even it out when you tie it on to the hook shank and tie it shorter. I use the hair from the bottom third of the tail as it is generally finer and has more action that the hair near the top or butt end of the tail. Your right it has great action and should make a great jig. Since you get them for just the cost of a shell and a licence and get to eat the meat besides they are worth saving.

Those will work and like longer tails in the early fall when the crappie are feeding on the big shad. Then until mid December I do the longer jigs in a 1/8 oz.with a #1 or #2 hook. For some reason they will quit wanting the larger jigs and start favoring the smaller jig with the kip tail tails. As the crappie start there spring migration from the river to the lake to spawn I start in on the big pony head jig 1/4 oz. with #1 hooks trolled in the river channel. When they hit the lake I start to use the 1/32 oz. in a size 6 hook all hair jigs. Different lakes will have different patterns.

As I have stated the most important thing I have discovered is to make sure that the tips are equal. That way the hair will have more action. One other thing is that on the bigger jigs the fish will most often hit your jig on the drop. You have to be on your toes and with a stiff rod be able to feel your line all the time. If what you are using is working for you don't quit. If you are having trouble I hope these few little pointers will be helpful. If you have any questions ask I will give you a honest opinion on what might be needed or is going on.
