I took a break from spinnerbaits and bucktails to see how well the furnace hackle I got from Michaels was and if it was easy to tie or if it broke or had barbs missing and I was really surprised at the quality. The top jig is a 1/8oz round head painted brown with a size #1 sickle hook, the tail is black barred orange and yellow rabbit strip and the body is orange and black varigated chenille with furnace hackle finishing it off. The middle jig is a 1/8oz round head painted dark watermelon with a size #1 sickle hook, the tail is olive craft fur and the body is olive antron trilobal chenille with furnace hackle to finish it off. The bottom jig (my favorite) is a 1/8oz round head painted black with a size #1 sickle hook, the tail is black bucktail with silver flash and the body is black pearl chenille with furnace hackle finishing it off. As I said, I did these to take a break but to try out the hackle from Michaels and I love it, it ties in really well, no weak stems and the feathers are nice and full and there is a wide range of sizes, much more hackle than what it looks like. They have bags of Guinea fowl feathers, pheasent feathers and tails and maybe if I'm nice to Fatman he'll show me how to make that pheasent tail nymph jig and then I'll have a reason to get some.

Pattern is pretty basic and has been around for a long time. http://www.flyfishersrepublic.com/patterns/pheasant-tail-nymph/
Once your done with Step 2 flip the jig over so the hook is up and finish the pattern.

These are the little 1/32ndsd I did

Those buggers look awsome! Would be a tough choice for which i would tie on my line first....... as much as i like the watermelon - my eye keeps going back to the one with the black head and body.

Thanks guys, I really liked them in the water when I tank tested them and the black in my favorite also! FM, I was amazed at all the Hackle Michaels had, like I said they have bags of guinea fowl feathers, pheasent feathers, pheasent tails and all kinds of hackle. The hackle I got is a bunch of nice size feathers on a material patch to hold them in place but they are natural furnace with great color. In the water they give off a 2 tone effect as the the one feather I tied in had varying shades of brown throughout the length of it and it really makes it look cool in the water I'm hoping the fish think it looks good too!!!

I'm going to Michaels Thursday or Friday and I'll post a pic in tools and materials. I can't take a pic because the package is thin plastic so I open it and put the hackle in a gallon size zip lock and throw the packaging away.
