This is a vice I made and use to tie 1/4 and 1/2 oz jigs. The basic idea is there but you could build heavier if you like. I plan to make the clamping bar a bit heavier in future as it does tend to flex a little if I really tighten it down hard, I used a piece of 7/16 round stock and ground it flat on one side . next I took some 1/8 flat bar and shaped it to match the main bar. drill and tap the flat bar and drill the main bar a bit bigger so the bolt will slip through easily. Weld the nut to another piece of round stock and weld that to a plate or clamp . drill and tap the 3/4 nut so you can clamp the main vice bar in place. You could weld it solid but clamping allows you to rotate the work if you want

Very impressive - fully functional.

Might extend your roundstock in the rear to help with the flex & add weight...
