I tied this little guy with a combination of black and chartreuse cactus chenille. It came out with an interesting mottled appearance.

I think the crappie and smallmouth will like it.

Love the walleye heads with eye sockets, even if buying eyes has gotten kind of expensive.

I'm glad I picked up some of the black in the Powder deal - that comes out really nice. The stuff I have from Janns is okay but not as bright and shiny as that.

That's one that should always be in the box. There's not a more reliable color combo, IMO, and you just made it more appealing.

Yes, I tied in the ends, twisted them into a rope, then wrapped the rope around the shank. You have to pay attention to which direction you wrap the rope, or it will separate as you wrap it on the shank for the same reason thread gets twisted as you wrap. If you are wrapping away from yourself, twist the chenille strands counterclockwise. It helps if you have a rotary vise, since you can hold the tension on the chenille to keep it from unraveling in one hand while wrapping by turning the vise.

Didn't have any more of the walleye heads painted up, but here's the same technique on a 1/8 round head with orange and chartreuse. I think the semi-translucent nature of cactus chenille makes it especially suited for this.

The walleye head is one of my favorites as well. Nice twisted blend of the cactus chenille. That color will catch crappie anywhere in the country.
