......got out (solo) and checked the ice at my hometown reservoir this evening and decided it made my ice-hole pucker to the point of non-comfort. Only fished for about an hour (one mark on the flasher, one nibble) and once it got dark got worried about stepping into holes that weren't quite froze solid from previous trips. :D This 'hardwater' season may be over for me. Was a nice couple months tho.

Sooooo......... came back home and cracked a beer and started thinking about spring. Tied a few kip and wool rove little jigs. Buddy i fish with (WeightForward) mentioned to me that his supply was running thin, so will be making an Altoid box for him with a wide variety. Variety is the spice of life. :)

plenty of ice here yet. most lakes still have roughly 2 feet. I'll send some down your way if you want.... lol. I am having serious doubts again this year if the land will be open by the first Saturday in May for the opener. an hour or so north they were ice fishing fire the opener last year.

Attica.....Man you kick my a#$ on the sweet paint jobs! Are those tapping or a clear coat 2nd dip blend. Glitter is very delicate to blend in a clear coat some are heavy than others! Can I ask the specific brand if you are having luck on one more than others.......In particular the belly style head jigs in the center top.

Thanks all for the kind words.

Hawnjigs - I do seem to be simplifying some of my utilitarian jigs. These are small enough hooks to catch either bluegill or crappie so i do keep the length out past the hook fairly short. They are intended to be thrown with small floats to assist casting and really only require minimum action to get bit. Not really sure if fish consider these as baitfish or bugs? My larger crappie cast/retrieve jigs i still make longer tails. Bass jigs too. :)

plateboater - The glitter on the chub heads are mainly mica powder. I have it mixed with clear and dip the heads (usually twice with minimal heat) as a base color and then use candy paint tapped on as the top side color. Have to get the candy to just dust on to get the best color out of it. I have some generic holographic glitter (purchased at W-Mart) that works OK mixed with clear, but honestly the premixed powder/glitters seem smaller sized and easier to work with. I tap on 90% of the glitter/powder mixes since i can never get decent random coverage by trying to dip in glitter. Majority of my powder paint comes from Jann's Netcraft.... pretty sure it is repackaged CSI/Pro-Tech powder.

BTW - Got out again on Saturday afternoon and checked the other reservoir in town.... ice was much better there. Still about 10" of good clear ice but had to be careful not to step in old holes. Didn't even take the auger, just the spud bar and opened up old holes. Makes the load a lot lighter. The weather (pressure?) must have the fish tight lipped. Had a few followers on the flasher but only convinced one to bite.
