Most fly tying thread is sized in denier or 3/0 to 12/0. But regular sewing thread has no size on it? I've found some great looking colors at JoAnn fabric, but haven't been able to tell what size the thread is. I know it would hold up in the water, since it would be covered with Sally Henson. Does the size really matter/ I use a lot of 6/0, 8/0 or 140 denier. What do you guys think?

My thoughts are I like the thicker sizes when tying bucktail or silicon jigs and the thinner waxed thread when tying rabbit.

Some of the micro flys I see would use a very thin thread. I've bought some thin thread for the ducktail & silicon but it breaks to easily.
