Here is a pic of some of my finesse jigs, I had a friend call and wanted some so I figured I would take a pic and post them as they are completely different that what we normally see here. These are both 3/16oz weedless round head jigs using the 5/64" FG12 weedguard with 3/0 Owner 5326 crosseye jig hooks. The jig on the left is a pattern I call "Blue Craw" , it is a green pumpkin head with 10 strands of green pumpkin silicone skirt material and 10 strands of green pumpkin candy rippled silicone skirt material. The silicone is tied in with 210 denier Danville flat waxed nylon and sealed with a small amount of Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy and the trailer is a custom color Jakes Craw from River Rock Baits. The jig on the right is the same as the other but this one I call "Summer Craw" as the crawfish here turn dark brown and olive with orange tipped claws during the summer. The jig is painted matte brown with 10 strands of coffee silicone skirt material and 10 strands of striped brown/green pumpkin silicone skirt material. Once again the silicone is tied in with Danville 210 denier flat waxed nylon and sealed with Devcon 2 Ton epoxy and the trail is another custom color Jakes Craw from River Rock Baits.

Those will make excellent finesse baits in slow or slack water with that head weight. Much current with all those legs and you might never touch bottom. :P Beautiful work.

Thanks guys, I thought I'd just give a little different perspective. These jigs are meant for slack water and they also happen to be the jigs that changed my friend's mind on silicone skirting on a jig, the same guy I made these for. We were fishing a lake 2 years ago and I tied on one of these finesse jigs, the same style that is in the picture, and my friend told me I was wasting money and time putting that "stuff" on a jig head. He told me he would do just as good using the same plastic craw on the same size jig head so we both rigged up and started to fish. It was late April and the water was cool, 55 degrees and the largemouth were just beginning to stage, the sun was up high as a front had moved through the day before and a breeze was blowing a little, that breeze would be key. Over the next 5 hours I caught 14 largemouth while by friend caugth 2, and the reason, I believe, was the fish were staging but the post frontal conditions had them holding tight to cover. We were catching all the fish in the 6' to 8' range anywhere there was a stup, laydown or brush from old Christmas trees put in by crappie fishermen and the fish were neutral not really biting hard. What I believe was the reason for me doing so well was the skirt material moving as my jig laid motionless, this allowed me to leave the jig in one spot and it was how I was getting bit, well after the drubbing my friend has started using skirted jigs and is a big believer after that. It could work the other way at certain times but I've found that most of the time the skirt helps avnd ver seldom does it hurt.

They do work. Before i ever bought my first skirt tabs and tied my own, bought many jig/pig lures but it was hard to find lighter weight ones able to cast with a light weight spinning combo. Had to use a bigger stick and heavier line. Now that i tie my own, 1/4oz is huge to me for a bass jig.

Did not use many craw style trailers back then - either 5" Kalins grubs or 7" ribbon tail worms.

SJ - here's a pic of the craws that Janns Netcraft used to carry!! I've found the brown pepper, brown/orange, but I know I have some in chartreuse pepper, black and blue.
