Have ended up with (more than) a few painted spinner blades with recently getting into powder painting. Kind of on the fence... i really like the flash from the blades so don't like to cover them totaly with paint but some below are completely covered. Those were screw-ups originaly and just painted to cover up my mess.
My other recent obsession besides the paint has been making jig/pig style lures with silicone skirts. Looking at all the blades... then the pigs... i finally put the 2 together. Sure glad i did!!!
From testing these in my pond, i will say that next year - these will take over the space of nearly all other traditional spinnerbaits and in-line spinners i have in my boxes. The sili skirt lays back around the body when in motion the same as a traditional skirted spinnerbait making for a very full body with the spinner just behind the hook. No more nose down/hook tilted up RR's in the river, woo hoo!!!
Notes:
---The skirt can not lay back past the swivel to where it hits the main part of the blade or it will foul the blade - BUT - the silicone does not foul up the swivel itself though.
---On smaller sizes (1/16 & 1/32) i would suggest not to use a colorado style blade. Too much torque from the blade makes the head try to roll over if you retrieve too fast. Idaho and Willow both worked on the smaller sizes.
---1/8th oz. and up cast like little bullets, similar to how well in-line spinners cast. Smaller sizes don't cast the greatest... even worse with the wind.
My 1st prototypes: 1/16 on top & 1/8 shot head on bottom.
Took the black one out to the pond and hooked a bass on my 2nd cast and had 2 other explode on it fishing after that!
1/16 oz:
1/8 oz.
1/4 oz.
3/8 oz.
