Salmon coloured spey shrimp flies were all the craze here a few years ago. They still produce large searun browns. Plus, perch anglers kept asking me for a pink lure so I made a long boolie version of it. Water had been too warm too long this autumn so it hasn´t produced a keeper yet but given the circumstances, fish responded quite well, first tests were promising. Its the only commercial jig I tie with finn racoon. Even the underfur alone is longer and more transluescent than arctic fox.

Nice one, Do you have any Bladehook interference? I tried some a while back and kept having blade stuck in the hook.

Nope. It looks like that on the picture for some reason, but that never ocurred to me. Other than with Spinner arms...

I´m very happy with the blade (P2) btw which unfortunately is out of stock for this year. Would be glad to hear about an alternative source (bulk!).

Huh? is Hagens out of the #2s?

Is that a #2 hook? Even tho the prop spin cleared the hook I did notice some hookset interference with the 2-2 combo so downsized my prop to #1 with the #2 hooks. And upped hooks to #1 with the #2 prop.

Thanks everybody! Took it out for a spin with the kayak today... I was mainly intending to test larger buzz bombs but had barely left the ramp when I noticed some sickles on the sounder. The water was dead calm and not too deep so I took the light tackle and threw a 1/4th at them. First cast, first fish = biggest one of the day, well over 20".

The large 4" buzz bomb did what it was supposed to do, it caught its fish and while trolling from one spot to another briefly contacted what seemed to be a small trout.

overall the (winter-) cod fishing under the herring swarms simply wasn´t on yet. All the action took place in less than 15`so I focused on getting to know "my backyard" a little better. After all the recent fishing from shore, I used to be irritated that the far casting small buzz bomb did better than my hair jigs. Turned out that was mainly a matter of range. Once I was on top of them and could cover as much water as I wanted, the hairjig nailed them and got me 7 legal size fish in total.

@ Hawn: Thanks for the tip with hagens, just what I was looking for! The Jighook is a #1, no props

Boy I miss those nice cod! Stock is badly collapsed, totally overfished, I hardly harvest any at all these days....

Just came across this thread commenting another one and feel urged to mention that this salmon color is killing all sorts of tropical fish in the surf. After a very happy customer posted a much regarded travel report on a major forum, I have had a number of customers now who travelled seychelles and did very well with both them and salmon colored shad darts. The delicate "finn racoon" hair won`t last forever but the action and simplicity of this small, inexpensive lure makes up for it.

Hi Bucho, Nice report on the salmon color productivity ! I ,too, have switched to "Finn Raccoon" for virtually all my recent BOOLIE ties, tho can't locate that salmon color. I haven't tied my Boolies long (yet) like you do, but wrap sparsely ,usually in red FinnRac, with just a few guard hairs extending 3/4" beyond the hook and the underfur spiraled wrapped on the hook shank for a tight little fuzzy "body" ,half way up the hookshank to the bead. The softness of the raccoon thin strands allow easy swaying action to my 1/28 oz jighead (Hawn's,of course) with the use of a little Gulp cylinder as described in the "Extra action for tiny jigs" article over in our Jig Fishing forum. Bluegills, crappies, cats, and trout have jumped all over this during the past season! I'm thinking Finn Raccoon is the IDEAL Boolie material, and that 2018 will be my "year of the raccoon!" (wished I could find salmon color, tho"!)

John, thats very good to hear! I have given some of your boolies to a friend who yielded very good results with them. I was wondering where to get that wool from and got very insecure whether I could substitute it with softer material. Let me send you a bag, I buy that stuff wholesale.

Hi Again Bucho, ole pal ! Yeah we have PLENTY of wool over here -especially a big box on the hide of a creamy natural white wool. Plus some spun wool in dyed colors that has been extremely good to us, both in tying and for catching!! I'd be most happy to send you a goodly supply of this wool! Take care, JOHN
