These are one of the first rabbit jigs I learned how to tie for river smallies specifically, they feature a single long tail with a short body, the thinking is that having a larger body with long thin tail makes the jig resemble a sculpin, I'm not sure about that but they do work well. The top jig is a 1/8oz weedless football head jig painted watermelon, it has a tail and body both made with black barred olive rabbit strips. The bottom jig is a 1/8oz weedless ball jig painted dark watermelon, it has a tail and bodyboth made with black barred dark olive with green rabbit strips. A friend stopped by the house today and I was showing him some of the dobson fly jigs I had tied and after he checked them out he asked about the old rabbit jigs and I told him I haven't tied one in a long long time, in fact I pretty much forgot about them so I decided to make a few using a couple different heads. I prefer the regular rabbit jigs with the longer tapered body for all around fishing and for looks too but this style works really well in a river, I never tried them in a lake or for largemouth. What do you think of this style, yea or nay?
