Since my son went on his own. We have had rare chances to fish together.
So since he was left to his own devices in Nebraska for a week. His daughter got an honors student trip to Washington. His wife had to go to some sort of military school for training. He decided to sneak home here in Ohio for a six day fishing excursion.

Day one went as planned and we caught a mess of crappie and other fish.
Day two went down the tubes. Same lake , same locations, but crappie ( the bigger ones ) had moved. I put on a multi-specie display especially Mr Whiskers. My whole life I have a unique talent when it comes to catching catfish. Big ones , little ones and all in between. I didn't bother taking any pix of those .

These were the two oddest of the day. Odd that they hit a minnow and doubly odd because they hit a spreader rig.

Did not measure or weigh just released it. Estimate @ 15 lb

Same thing here no weigh , no measure estimate 10 -12 lb. Did not want to play with this guy too long to insure his revival. Today kinda warm so only had him out of water long enough to take hook out.

Next trip going back to night fishing. Be a first time in long time son has night fished. Any day was enjoyable even if crappies were not co-operating

For the fun of it I would think those multi-species chunkies got crappie beat. Do you get many catfish on jigs?

Now that is a net!

Looks like fun rod benders and sounds like a great time with your son along.

I could very well be wrong but think that is a Muskie. Pike/Muskie..... not a whole lot of difference tho.

I could be mistaken here also but believe the state record Walleye was caught on a Perch spreader and minnow. :)

Yes that was a Muskie. I have caught hundreds of channel cats on jigs especially when night fishing. Even a few bullhead catfish. Although I would be a hard measuring stick as I can catch catfish no matter what.

Channel cats as a specie take all kinds of artifical baits. I have caught lots of them on crank baits when trolling for walleyes and crappies.

AF- can't say for sure if record walleye caught on spreader but over the years but over the years it has caught lots of walleye for me. Even up around the islands when Erie Dearies was the way to go. I won a bet with a Charter captain one day. I was the top walleye getter on board that day using two rods both rigged with spreaders, Leech on one side , half a crawler on other.
