This is a tie that came about because of this site. I was looking at some of my old spider jigs I used to use for smallies when the bite was tough and I thought about trying to tie a jig that was smilar. Well I came here before beginning and saw the mimic tube and here is what I came up with. I made the body a little longer and I made a few tight wraps just under where I tied the chenille in to make the skirt flair out. Anyway, here it is, watermelon candy silicone skirting, black ultra chenille, 1/16oz jig head painter in baby bass green with chartreuse flake.

That should have some interesting movement in the water........ slim down in motion then flair when slowed down or stopped.

Interesting hook, is that a do-it-yourself bend? Does the downward point work better than straight ahead?

That is a do it yourself bend, I found that when using small abrdeen type hooks for bass that if I make a slight bend to get the hook point facing in just a bit it really helps in keeping the fish pinned. The reason I started doing it was on my small bucktails I would lose fish and everyone I lost the hook point would be bent out, not much but enough to have it pull out, so I started making that little bend and the rest id history, I haven't had a fish throw the jigs with small hooks ever since I started doing that.

Here in HI the standard bait dunking hook has been circles since before I was born, not only for holding power but because they rarely get bottom snagged. Applying that theory, more moderately of course, into a jig hook is evident in Owner beak points and SOME batches of Sickles. My favorite Mustad 2x jig hooks are slighly down bent, but I might try increasing the down angle after seeing yours, SJ.

I notice that you are bending up the shank away from the original round bend, which in my experience does not weaken the hook.
