I'm sitting here this morning finally not having to rush out door for an emergency call. Kinda nice.
Thinking about my old 16ft seaswirl, straight family fish boat. Has 35hp evinrude on it, traded labor to a buddy/customer for an 850 Mercury, and put a kicker on. Getting merc ready to put on, going to take out original 1976 interior (still like new), but I'm going to make open floor plan movable pedistal seating. Bow mount trolling motor for bassn (fab custom aluminum brackets). It was/is a great boat just want it better. It's going to be that ol hull in the water...

Yeah I'll take some before pics tomorrow morning before I hit the road 80 mi today and 120 tomorrow. I'm excited I finally got a large enough motor to push that thing. It's not a whaler hull just deep v, walkthrough windshield with closed bow. Pictures will give better description.... it was actually manufactured in Culver, Oregon when they had that plant open which is about 20 mi from my house. I'm third and last owner.

Oh yeah she's like the biggest diamond in the rough. But I've fab'd everything in this boat since my dad passed it down to me. I can pull the trailer down any pothole dirt road and launch from any beach and be fishing is less than three minutes. The updates for this year include full rear plateform with same 7/8 bolt (as front pedistal)receivers for seat options, and driving seat remount system. New vert. rod holder system(old 4x4 system seen it's last leg. She planes out at 20mph at my favorite lake she's adjusted for the higher elevation of that lake but performs well at any elevation.

Hookup I checked out that place cool ideas for sure but seems a little too owned by accessories/product sellers. If I can fab my own/which is generally better in my opinion I do.
One of the best refab tools was a anchoring light turned into spotlight for running after darkView attachment 6View attachment 7View attachment 8

End of day rear plateform with thread adjustment height 2 more receivers for pedistal seats still need and mounted. 4 seat options all interchangeable. Rewire portion of electric system for cleanliness. Tape measure installed down length of gunnel middle seat removed, still need to make leveling board for that section between thwarts. On my list of wants it that dense foam to attach at water line for a little more boyancy and stability, anybody have a good source for these ?View attachment 3View attachment 4View attachment 5

You can make your own foam with a can of urethane insulation. They make one that's extra tough for landscaping. Just make a form out of wood, line it with plastic and spray the stuff in it. When it's dry you can cut and finish shape it with a sharp knife or a electric knife. You may have to practice on how much to insert to see how much expansion you get because some brands expand and push more than others. Make sure you leave one end open, I've seen that stuff push steel doors apart! It's sort of like what they use for packing heavy parts in boxes with. Make sure you paint it otherwise it'll rot in the sun. There are some plastic's it won't stick to so you could peel the plastic off and re-use it. I think some of the harder ones like 2 liter bottles are of that type.
I once updated an old 12' columbia tri-hull that I got from my brother. Added a deck, trolling mtr, carpet and finished the seat pedestals that he started. The old 18hp Johnson would pop it up on a plane pretty easy but after I was finished I noticed a bit of performance loss. Had to raise the motor a bit because of the extra weight (it needed to have been between a short and long shaft) and re-think things to shave some pounds off.  It's pretty easy to get too heavy and lose that ease of portability and safety really quick.

Yeah I've already experienced a little performance loss and yes the more I add in "luxuries " the more I sacrifice performance. I've got a few things in mind to shave weight. Now I've got the wood templates carved and shaped, next is a sheet of aluminium diamond plate to replace plywood that is existing. Thanks duffy for the 411 on foam techniques.

Talking with my dad about my and his boat upgrade projects. I'm going to go with sheet aluminum and put bed liner or similar product on it. Thinking about the DTM paint I have that's like molasses and sprinkle walnut shell or sand on it for grip. Or maybe even griptape. He has diamond plate in the floor of is semiV had it powder coated and its starting to wear off after about 2 years.

Could take it to a Bullhide liner place and have them shoot it when their doing a pickup bed. Of course it would probably cost some $$. That stuff is more "rubbery" than most of the others. There's also the spray grit paint by Rustoleum. It's like sand in clear paint. I use it on my old truck running boards so they aren't so slick. Just a thought.
