Hey guys, dbeam recommended this forum to me so here I am. I like what I've seen so far. I just moved out west from NC and am learning my way around the local waters. I've had pretty good luck on bass so far, but am really looking forward to getting into some big panfish. I do tie a few jigs here and there, but am a complete beginner to that. They aren't pretty, but they do catch fish. Here are a few that I've tied and a few fish that I've caught on them.

I forgot to say, I also dress my own treble hooks for hard baits. That's what actually got me started in tying. Again, not the prettiest but I've caught hundreds of speckled trout on them so they do at least work.

Hola from SoCal. Your gonna like the panfishing in AZ. We fish Havasu and the river by Parker for some humongous Redear and Bluegill.
As long as the jigs work - that's what matters - improvements come with practice...
Welcome aboard

Thank you for the warm welcome guys. I'm really hoping to get to Havasu sometime as I've always heard of the huge redear and gills there. I can't imagine what the fight on some of those 3-4 pounders must be like.

If you get a chance to fish the Sea of Cortez - do it!!!! Further South you go the better it gets, you can get to bluewater at certain times of the season...

Lots of canal fishing too....

That's on my bucket list. Prices seem pretty reasonable for charters too. I would love to take a charter one or two days and then spend a few days in my kayak.

Looked on a map - didn't realize Yuma was a day trip away from the Golfo.

How big are the trout, and what lures do you use to get em?

The weather is nice right now, unfortunately it's going to be hot soon. I've already experienced the miserable heat that's coming and I'm not looking forward to it.

The trout pictured above came from NC. They are 18-23 inches. That particular day, three of us put 75 or more in the boat ranging from 16-25 inches. That's not the norm though, we were in the right place at the right time. Most of my speck fishing is with top waters, mirrolure 17mr's and popping corks with DOA Shrimp. It would be a decent haul to find any specks from here, but I'm studying up on corvina fishing around San Diego.

Thanks Allen.

I slipped out yesterday for my first Arizona kayak adventure. It was a good one... Every cast bream for a solid 2 hours. They weren't big but big enough to pull drag on an ultralight and the action was fast and furious. No jigs this time, wax worms were the bait of choice. After the bite stopped I did a little bass fishing and landed 30 or so. Again most were dinks, but I had one around 6-7 pounds and a few 2-3's.

Welcome to the site! Great pictures. As said above...... if the jigs catch fish, you know they work. Probably over 90% of my bass fishing is done with jigs now. Fished a VERY pressured pond while camping this weekend and was the only person i saw catching fish. They were all over the jigs with silicone skirts and fat rabbit zonker tails.

Good to see some AZ fish pics. It is a great group, I am sure you will enjoy the site. I am heading out the salt next week. Did you ever fish around Sea Level? Dave, Chad, and Brent are doing recon fishing this weekend.
