Need help with flanks

Can anyone tell me how to prep flank first time tying mallard flank or do you do it like hackle can you post a photos please Thank?

The way I did mine was cut the feather off the stem and tye it.

I end up stripping mine most of the time, but mine don't always turn out as god as others i have seen. Junglejim has it down, there are some of his step by step instruction using flank on the Pattern page.....
