Evening Guys,

Continuing my feedback. I am about 1000 into a 1/24 by Jacobs. The sprue is to big and they will not break. I have to cut then I am rounding with 300 grit sandpaper. I am communicating with Rick. He has listened and produced a new handle design but we are going to need help with the sprue.
I poured about 500 jigs today using a mod 1/4 do-it, mod 1/32 do-it and then the 1/24 jacob. The Jacob is adding steps to the process that is not needed if you plan on running production.

From looking at his mold, the gate appears to be round, great cross section but terrible for clean break. Suggest making one twice as wide but half as deep.

I have several of these with the round gate, really like the molds but can't get the sprue to twist off clean. Side to side doesn't work either. I've been using florists shears to cut the sprue. This has worked the best so far for me. Still is not perfectly clean though.

I have a couple that I can't twist either. I use a small gate shears to cut just a little of the sprue. then twist it off. takes a little practice to know how far and the correct angle to cut, but at least I don't have to sand or file the heads this way.

Talking with Rick this weekend. He will look into the problem Rick is concerned that the flip side is others will complain to small. I am not sure if he is lurking on here but anytime you want to post Rick....feel free. Again I have poured for over 20 years and am trying to give feedback on what needs to improve.

Dog toe nail clippers Have worked for me If the sprue is not over poured at the top . There is a learning curve to making molds no matter who you are . He is the only one that stepped up to the plate and is trying to help when no one else would .If it were me I'd pull the molds Make adjustments . Then when I had a the gripes fixed . I put them back for sale at no not the measley 50 bucks but at Shawn Collins prices . Something like 150 bucks . But that's just me. Some days I get up being a pain in the butt . Guess this is one of those days .

I'm sure he will tweak things as time goes on. Kills me how an "ex" member of jigcraft went on Jacobs site and pretty much blasted a lead mold. It wasn't even his mold it was his friends. To top it off they had modified the mold quite a bit yet it was the moldmakers fault! Rick was a lot more courteous about it than I would be.

Seriously someone is actually trying to meet our wants with lead molds and yet you have pol like this go on HIS site and trash a product. True colors are shown.

Plateboater has gone about this the right way and has my respect!

Rick just worked on a little project for me. He blew me away with his speed and quality.

Have the same problem with my 1/24 mold. But if I would have complained anywhere it would have been thru PM's

I have the same question though why bash someone who is trying ? Often times in life the thinnest skin people who cannot stand the smallest of censure. Have no problems in heaping it on others.

Rick's work speaks for itself. There will be differences in what is needed for a plastic injection mold and a lead mold.
To expect " perfection " on someone's first attempt at doing anything new is unreasonable.

Now some of us may understand why there is very few people who even want to attempt making molds.

I ordered molds that were listed as " Out of Stock" on his site by mistake and still received them in a few days. I figured it'd be a couple weeks. I'm happy with his service.

Again fellows......Not trying to offend anyone. I am using a forum to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem. Jacobs has the best mold in the last several years. I just poured with a new Jacobs 1/32 tonight and still have a large sprue. In the spirit of continuous improvement I think a forum is where people talk.
No where else can you pour a perfect 1/32 round ball head and use a #8 up to a #2 like I did tonight. Unreal to think that is possible but can be done. The 5 n 5 is also where I can pour one side #4 and then flip to pour #2. What a fantastic design feature.
I cannot comment on what others do on his home site. I did give a decent review on his home site and also the fact he is listening to the voice of the customers.
I was suggested dog nail clippers to cut the sprue. Is there anything else better for this purpose?????? Will take ideas

Plate I was not referring to you by my post. You are handling it very respectfully unlike that ONE guy who never contacted Rick just blasted his product on his site.

I have quite a few molds that the sprue cant be twisted off. For the most part I like to use CHEAP micro flush cutters from harbor freight. They're only like 3 bucks a pair. I usually pick up 3 or 4 pairs every time I go to HF. I trim my heads while Im pouring while the lead is still hot. Like mentioned earlier don't cut all the way thru then twist. When im in my groove pouring this way... I can really knock out some heads.

I guess I'm not in the understanding, since I don't pour, but my hats off and bald shiny head gleaming to Mr Jacob.
I never really wanted to pour until I saw there was someone like him ASKING and taking suggestions.....
Hope the pressure from all this info on multiple sites doesn't stir him from his passion....
The ball is always in a court, until you take it, clear the court and start your own game.

My complaint was not with you plateboater. But in reference to what was posted on Rick's own forum . Custom mold work is awfully hard to find. Rick is a guy willing to try it.

Fatman's critique there was over the top. If product improvement is the true aim that could have handled a lot better than it was.

When I ordered mine I expected there to be some problems with it. Since this was his first venture at lead molds.

I just hope that the blow up does not discourage Rick from pursuing the lead mold field. If that is a result we all lose.
