Is this normal?? Squirrel tails

I decided to order some squirrel tails, after seeing LOTS of good looking jigs being posted here on JigCraft featuring squirrel hair. I got my order in today and a couple of them seem to have, at some point, been infested by some form of bug/insects? I took the first one out of the package and gave it a shake, about 10%-15% of the hair fell out. Is this "normal"??

What I'm seeing in the one picture I would recomend keeping them away from your other matreials .

Looks like they got drug through a brushpile. I've never bought a squirrel tail, I hunt and simply debone stretch, scrape, tack salt cure, Since I plan on cutting the hair off, I do not soften (tan) the skins, Bleaching and dying do not care if hide is stiff or soft. But I've had tails for years and the hair does not often come out.

Looks like they didn't salt them to cure is the reason for the bugs I think, also will let the hair slip like you stated. I have had a few come in like that but I send them back when I do get them.

Send those bad boys back!!!!!!!!! If there was anything else in the package check it carefully!!!!!!! You DO NOT want bugs!!!

For the record, these appear to be hollow shell "remnents" of some sort of bug/larva. There appears to be nothing "alive" in these packages.

I will contact the seller and start the return process.

By any chance, would you be willing to tell us who the seller was? Hopefully they have a good return policy.

I usually just cut the tail stick the raw end in Borax and let them air dry in the garage. sometimes I will have some hair fall out but not bad.

If you want some bone-in natural tails PM me your address and I will send you some.

You guys really don't want that squirrel tail. It doesn't look good on a jig or fly at all!
