Most of us by now are aware of superbugs bacteria that develop resistance to antibiotics, the problem largely caused by overuse particularly in the livestock industry.  As outdoor enthusiasts we may be especially susceptible to infection.  Here's a summary from the CDC (fed gov Center for Disease Control) Sept 19, 2018 :

"Antibiotic resistance, when germs (i.e., bacteria, fungi) develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them, is a top threat to the public's health and a priority across the globe. In the U.S. alone, it causes more than 2 million infections and 23,000 deaths per year."

What to do?  Not much, but I do sign petitions to food providers to consider at least limiting use in their products.  Eating out, here is a report card rating fast food & chain eating out establishments.
