There is no cold like mountain cold. Spent a night at Wallenpaupack Lake in the Poconos in Eastern PA. This was in the first week of Nov. in 2009. At 3 AM we had to give it up. It was soooo cold I burnt my ice fishing pants on the lantern trying to get too close to it. Speaking of the lantern it had frost on the bottom of the propane tank . The cold sucked the battery down so hard had to start the 40 hp Merc by hand. That little work out served to warm me up a tad.

I was shivering so bad I probably looked like a dog trying to crap razor blades. I ice fish and I haven't ever been as cold as that night.

Yes it is a different cold in the mountains and on the water it seems to be more intense. I didn't warm up until today but wow it is so beautiful I'd go back tomorrow if I could.
