You call them shrimp, we call them prawns, so in the interest of US/Oz Jigcraft connection they will be called Shawns!

Three on left are 1/11th Gamakatsu "Arky 26" heads, one on right (tan head white tail pink eyes) is a 1/8th Gamakatsu "Cobra 27" head. All four dressed in bucktail with only a little flash. Eyes are a blob of Epoxy over a blob of coloured nail polish on 60 pound pink Ande mono. Heads and bodies are nail polish with Hard as Nails over the top. Bit of clear sparkle on the backs of two of them. Hard to get anything but 90 degree hooks in Oz so have to go Japanese imports.
In my dreams I am casting them at bonefish!

I would call them "catchers". Now I guarantee Atticafish is gonna go gaga on these. Excellent ties , served with a few of your countrymen in Vietnam way back when. I must say they were excellent at their favorite sport. Which was fighting. They would get bored fighting between themselves and used us Americans to break up the monotony. This was a medical detachment and they were as rough as coarse sandpaper. I could only imagine how tough the Aussie combat troops were.

Good bunch of guys though. One minute you would pounding on one another minute be drinking a beer together. They never held a grudge either win , lose or draw. They used to explain that it wasn't personal. " Just something to do mate. "

Oh yeah - look almost good enough for ME to eat! Beautiful work.

No shrimp around here but do have lots of crawfish and those would be a dead ringer. Only change i would make for my local water is swap out the pink & white for black & green. :D Almost any of our freshwater species will eat them. Freshwater bonefish ( aka: carp :p ) would nail those in a smaller version... gona have to give that body shape a try.

Thanks guys. Paperperch not that much has changed! Plenty of blokes, specially in the bush, who's weekend ain't complete without beer, bourbon and a bit of biff! Have you ever seen an Australian movie called "The odd angry shot"?, it's an Australian take on the war.
Attica I didn't even think of carp, we have a lot of em damaging native fish habitat (by law must be killed), and plenty close to me even on the coast. What sizes do you use?
Fatman I think I've seen their site, it's dangerous hunting the web for American jig stuff! We have lots of shallow water fishing but no one locally makes forward eyed heads in the styles you guys use for flats fishing. A few local stores sometimes have the heads I used. They fall beautifully flat and quite slow.

What kind of carp are they? The Common Carp is the species that are in my waters but there is threat of the Asian Carp (silver carp?)making its way into the Great Lakes. Talk is that it will be doomsday for the other gamefish of the Great Lakes if they do get in.

As for size/weight of jig - smaller is better for the Common Carp in my oppinion. They love bugs and crustaceans but will also eat seeds from flowering trees that are native to my area. Basswood and cottonwood. If you can get down to a 1/32 'buggy' looking dark colored jig with a SHORT tail....... you are sure to get a few! I sight fish them alot in my local river and they are VERY spooky fish. Most times i have to cast up-stream and try to drift a jig/fly to them. There are rare occasions that they will hit minnow style jigs and lures, but have only had that happen once or twice. Have heard of some guys catching several in the same day on Rattle-Traps which are large lipless crankbaits with loud rattles inside the bodies... and of course Papaperch cathes them on jiggin-raps. :D :P

Silver Carp - from what i have heard, they are far more aggressive but have no clue on what their habitat/prey is yet. When and if they make their way into the great lakes, i will know more then. ;)

blah, blah, blah..... sorry

Yep Papa we have common carp (known as European carp here). Did some local googling and some fly guys here hunt em exactly as you said. They said the fight was pretty awesome. Thanks for info, I'm gonna try as you said! Will have to try to tie some baby bug eyes. My sight fishing skills need vast improvement. I've read of the fears for silver carp in your great lakes.

Hawn the crazy thing is it's closer and quicker for me in Sydney to jump on a plane east and in a couple of hours I could be in several Pacific Islands which have bonefish, some islands with very big bonefish.
But to get to the (fairly sparse population of) bonefish in north western Western Australia it'd take me abour six-eight hours or more! Hoping some more really cheaps flights (a few hundred bucks) to New Caledonia are available sometime soon.
Sight casting and catching a bonefish on really light tackle on a clean sandflat with a home made jig would be just such a blast.
