Hey everyone, new to the site here. Looks like a good place to learn a few things.

My name is Jerry Lee. I am 44 years old and have been hunting and fishing most all my life. I am married and have 2 kids that have already left the nest so to speak. I live in Muscatine Iowa. Thats in the southeast part of the state, right on the Mississippi River. I don't do too much river fishing myself. I mainly like fishing for crappies in farm ponds and river backwater ponds. Occationally i get to fish in bigger lakes, but there's not too many very close to me.

I usually use jigs and soft plastics tipped with a minnows. Or just a plain hook and minnow. I have been looking around on Crappie.com recently and their jig making and soft plastics forum have really gotten me interested in making my own jigs. I already have a wish list made for everything i need in pouring my own jigs. Might have to wait awhile before purchasing everything. I had worked at a corn processing plant here in town and due to a labor dispute we have been locked out for almost 2 years. I have been looking around for a job but not much luck. Oh well, it doesn't bother me too much yet, just gives me more time to go fishing. lol. Although the wife is growing increasingly angry with me for being the only one working lately.

I do like everything outdoors as i am a bowhunting fanatic too. I also build my own trailcameras. Have about 8 of them out all summer. Gives me something else to do in the offseason.

Hope to get a chance to join in on some of the topics here and learn a few things. Jerry.

Holy ****, did you catch those from shore?
The landowner has a couple of johnboats down by the waters edge. We just take our trolling motor and battery and have some fun. Those two crappies weighed 2lbs 14oz and 2lbs 12oz. We caught 4 over 2lbs that day among others. Have never caught one there over a pound in 10 years of fishing it until that day. But this year has seen a number of 14" and 15" crappies. Must be getting better.

Is your plant still running?
Yes, it is still running. They have temp workers in there making far less than what we did. Alot of turnover by what we hear. Nobody wants to work a 12 hour swingshift for $13 an hour. Bad part is the company probably realizes how much money they are saving with temp workers.

Welcome aboard, those are some pig crappie. I believe Crazy Angler Tackle offers a starter tying kit which is very reasonable and the best prices on materials I've ever seen. Won't break the bank, even sells jig heads, paint, everything you need.
