Had a rough day today

I am generally a pretty laid back person, but my fuse got short, and had to call a "coming to Jesus" meeting with my crew today. We have had a few mechanical problems in the last week ( which have been repaired ) and I haven't been getting a hell of a lot of sleep. The paperwork to resolve the issues is mountainous, and I have been at the computer filling out reports almost non stop.
All the routine stuff hasn't been getting done as it should be, because I haven't been on them to do it. Nobody wants to step up and do the things that are necessary without being told.
SO.... I went a little Postal this afternoon. It seems to me that the younger generation feels that they are entitled to the easy life sometimes. When I came up on these ships, there was no internet, no phones, very little contact with home. There was work, eat, sleep....reading-if you remembered to bring some books, and more work.
I am so tired of riding peoples backs to get simple, routine things done. They should be done without being told! The work ethic has gone out the door to the crapper.
I had to threaten to fire the lot of them... I guess they will jump through hoops for a while. I put the fear of GOD into them for sure!!!
Sorry for venting.......needed to get it out! lol

Disclaimer: IF YOU ARE AT WORK READING THIS......GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!! LMAO!

You are right about the work ethics but what I can't figure is why when you hit fifty and find your self out of work getting employed is so tough . I was told by a friend his company had an unwritten rule that they would not hire anyone over 35 except in a highly skilled area . This guy is senior manager he and several others were asked to take early retirement . Pretty good package to go out with . But now the jerks want him to be a free lance consultant for the punks that took their places . Go Figure.

Easiest thing to do is ban all their toys until they are off shift!!!!! It'll tick em off but if the work ain't gettin done they sure as heck can't complaine to loud, a job is WAY better than no job at all.

I can look around at work as long as the work is done and it is.

Have fun buddy!!!!!!!!! Supervising is NOT FUN!!!!!!!!!!

I am talking about the right out of college, wet behind the ear, mates that come out of these maritime academies that seem to think 25 years of experience on real ships doesnt equal their 4 years of school!
I worked my way up through the ranks the hard way, and there was very little te for play. If I wanted to get ahead... I had to bust my hump!! They now want it served with tea on the promenade deck!! B.S.!!!! I make them earn my respect.. Not demand it.
After yesterday..... They are jumping through hoops! All I want is help, and for them to do the job they get paid very well to do. I don't think there is another industry that pays as well as the marine industry, and I want them to see the value of it. There will not be money for nothing under my command!! Lol
Thanks for putting up with the ranting!

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding............. WINNER!!!!!! I will drink 2 xtra for you tonight and am headed up north to fish in the morning. :P

I will be doing 'marine' type work if that counts.... as in following my dad up to Erie with his boat on trailer so he can get it ready to hit the water. New windless anchor mount and fresh batteries. I will be running interference behind his 10' wide boat and back-up for any road-side trouble on the ride up. After that, me and my boy will be sitting at his marina and giving it our best to catch a few pre-spawn crappie. Or bluegill. Or perch. Or bullhead. Or ANYthing!
