Does anybody know how to get a gold finish...I want my jigheads to look like they are GOLD PLATED...I have tried the 18K gold pen from Michael's and that didn't even work. this is where you get them and this is what they look like.
They are actually gold or silver plated. I believe there was a couple people who went together and got a load of them plated........ but it was pricey.
You can achieve something (kinda) close to a plated look with candy gold powderpaint, but you need to have VERY shiny metal used to make the jig head from the start. Tin instead of lead would be my suggestion. Takes practice to get the powder to go on super thin also.
Thanks PB...I look forward to seeing the results..
Thanks for the comments guys...I really like the gold plated look, but I don't want to spend a fortune on it!
I have some 'gold' by CS powder paint but it is just kind of gold colored. I have a chrome from them that looks good, but the gold just isn't gold looking...
Apearantly they have discontinued the sun gold metallic. Both the gold and silver vein have been out of stock for what feels like an eternity. I fear the worst. Please post your results!
The clear candy gold paint mentioned by AF looks pretty impressive to me. Depends on the reflectivity of the underlying metal. Besides "chrome" plating, pure tin is very shiny and freshly cast pure lead is pretty close. A bit of tin added to pure lead can extend the shine life by retarding surface oxidation.
I got a hobby plating thing off of eBay (of course) for nickel plating that haven't got to yet (like a lot of things). Wasn't a whole lot to the kit. But it would be the same principle for gold. Probably cheaper to buy the stuff yourself.
Need a low DC voltage supply - batteries will work
Gold plating solution - that will probably cost
Gold anode - purity (shine) is up to you - same with the solution I think
Beaker and some clamp on leads
