Had no idea what this meant after seeing it in a news article: So...
"gerrymandering is a practice that attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group by manipulating district boundaries to create partisan advantaged districts"

In Ohio for example:
"2.3 million people voted Democratic and won 4 seats while 2.5 million people voted Republican and won 12 seats"

Wow, now I understand the voter redistricting flap.

Keith Not only is Gerrymandering used as a way to gain political advantage but also so racial equality. The State of Louisiana lost a Congressional seat last year because the outflow of people from New Orleans due to hurricane Katrina. Add to this the inflow of people to the north part of Louisiana Due to several factors ( movie industry, manufacturing, ect.) .The only way that they could redistrict the state was to gerrymander on a grand scale. Every one in all parts of the state are unhappy. Think this was done by just one of the political parties no. The redistricting plan had to be approved by ,you guessed it the Department of Justice. This has been a giant problem and has tore apart the state to the point that Democrats turned Republicans and Republicans turned Democrat. At one point the Legislature turned from Democrat to Republican. Now the 5 th. congressional district congressman Rodney Alexander has resigned and there is a big fight as to who will replace him with this being a new district. Politics in Louisiana is always fun to watch. There are people that even want Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty to run for this seat as he is right in the middle of this district. Crazy, Thank you Department of Justice you have done such a good job of messing things up. Can't wait until the government takes over the health care industry to see how bad they can mess that up too.
