Alright guys, i built my own fluid bed. I can get the dark brown powder to work perfectly with 3 coffee filters, why can't i get the black and green pumpkin to stop volcanoing? I've tried brown bags, and a few more coffee filters, but no matter what i do(even turning down the pressure) i can't get it to stop.

Same powder company? Properties are all a little different. I have about 20 different colors. A few are a pain!

Try printer paper. Some have had better success.

sweet i will give that a try for sure! i have plenty of that!!!

DSI, please report on your results. I've put my fluid bed away because of that very problem. Some powders work perfectly (like green chartreuse, yellow chartreuse & fl. orange) others look like a field in Yellowstone.

If you guys are making your own cups - have some micro poly mesh screen that might help. Have three different sizes. I usually trade for the mesh to help with shipping & it's not cheap stuff (got a great deal that I try to pass on).

Looking for;
ultra-lite crankbaits
Vintage fly tying & lure making stuff
Dice – especially die with skulls - anything to do with dice
Wheat, Indian, liberty pennies, V & buffalo nickels, and merc dimes work.

Coffee filter paper has littel extra holes punched into it. You´ll always have volcanoes as long as the last layer ist pierced like that. I´ve gotten myself a sheet of filter paper from the laboratory supplier. Much sturdier and perfectly even, works a treat.

It actually helped and I also used 3 coffee filters because the paper had a tendancy to tear while screwing down the cup. But I think my true problem is because I mixed 2 different types of paint together... Ones Protec and ones Fish Boss. The brown powder paint that I have actually is all Fish Boss powder paint. :/ next order I make I will order some more paint and not mix them together this time lol. I will definitely forward the results of that one

do you not have a problem when screwing down the cup? I don't glue my filter to the bottom only bc if you do have volcanoes, the excess paper actually catches the powder :D

I had the 2" as well and I switched the 3" because I am painting larger jigs. But I did notice that I had huge volcano problems with the 2". But also everyone recommends the brass valve... i actually bought some plastic ones from petco that work 10 times better than the brass. Where you connect the hose to the valve(brass), that little piece is designed to slide in and out, cutting off air flow or giving you more air than what you initially had.

I use Kirby hypoalergenic vaccuum cleaner bags. These are the heavy duty ones that the wife preferred before she got her dyson.

I glue them to the bottom of my cup with PVC Cement,

Cups? Screwing? I just use those little jars that I can plug in and out. Exchanging the bottom wiht filter paper takes a decent glue though.

I use one layer. They are pretty thick and tough. So far, I havent poked thru one of them even when I use a screwdriver to stir the powder. Sometimes I cannot find my popsicle stick.

Well I figured out what to do to make all colors work! instead of having one line run to a cup... I used a t-connector for the lines coming out of the aerator, and then one main line going into the cup! and that cured all problems! But I am thinking of switching to those vacuum bags :D

I got some of the material from Led and it works great!! I really only use them now to base coat a bunch of heads before I brush tap a second color. Never had a problem mixing brands as long as I put a little clear in the mix.

Bucho cool idea!!! Was thinking major mess until I saw the adjustment knob on the pump!!LOL
