Fish hiting short

I'm having trouble with bluegill and crappies hitting short on my jigs and flies. They act like they really don't want it. Tried several colors, just wondering what you guys do when this happens. Flies were #14 and jigs were 1/16 with size #6 hooks.

Pull out the ones you have tied a red throat on.sometimes a little red will move them on up the hook .

smaller and less bulky jig helps me a lot

I was going to say to downsize.... but #14 is already smaller than i usually go. Could have just been one of those days. If you see some bluegill up shallow, try casting to them and watching how they react to your bait. Some days they suck it in and spit it out so fast it is damn near impossible to set the hook.
