This is inspired by Len's recent post. I tied my version of a Shannon's Streamer...worm style. ;)

pplworm005.jpg

Used thick bungee cord rubber to extend the purple chenille body. Tied in craft fur as the firetail and whip finished over the cord. The football head is painted with nail polish to match the #5 chenille and topcoated with two-part epoxy.

Thought that this might make a good tie for the largemouth bass in my local reservoir. :jig:

How Awesome is that!!!! Nice :jig: / worm!

How fun was it tying the fur to the bungie? Now lets see it in a fish's mouth!

Holy cow - that takes it to a new level!

Questions, questions........

1. With the bungee wrapped tight with material, does it stay flexible?

2. Will it hold up to abuse from the fishes? I know you haven't tested it out yet, but what do you think?

3. How long is it and what wt. head?

4. Dang that thing looks SWEET!!!!!!!

Ron,
It wasn't fun. Did my best to secure the end of the rubber with my vise jaws and two-handed the wraps with my bobbin. The fur seems very secure though.

AF,
  1. It seems to. Best movments are to the left, right. and away from the hook bend. The rubber appears to have a little memory, but that may disappear with a little use in warm temperatures.
  2. I think it will. I've fished Texas-rigged plastic worms a bunch. The wear and tear, for me, has been greatest at the hook. I expect it to be the same with this worm. The acrylic chenille is machine washable, so it should be durable along the hook shank and bend.
  3. Its total length is 6 inches. The head weighs 1/8 of an ounce and has a #1 or 1/0 bronze sickle hook I believe.

Looks great.Would'nt a second hook tied to some mono at the end be a little better?Just asking.....

AZ,
I plan to fish this similarly to a Texas-rigged worm for largemouth. In my experience, largemouth bass generally take an entire 6-inch Texas-rigged worm into their mouths. Occasional short striking seems to be the result of pecks from bluegill and other sunfish. To me, a trailer hook could result in more secure hookups. But, it could also result in hooking the fish deep inside its gullet.

Awesome Worm!

I love that from the one Shannon's Streamer recipe we have recently had 3 great new takes on the pattern converted to jigs. That's what it's all about...Share, Inspire, Innovate.

I have been reading this site for a couple months, made a couple postings and all along wondering what jig most guys use for largemouth bass. Most jigs seemed to be for panfish, crappie and smallmouth. Was thinking about posting and asking what most guys use for largemouth. No need now. That worm is fantastic. I need to start learning to make that worm now. One question, is the bungee threaded up along the entire hook or just put onto the hook at the bend? Thanks, and again a fantastic job. Pop

Thank you for your kind words Guys. :)

This was a fun one to paint & tie. If I remember correctly, I was just starting out with the bungee cord wrapped in chenille.

My hands started cramping as I tied more of these, many with greater lengths. :( Nowadays, I prefer to furl (twist) chenille rather than wrap it around a bungee cord or boot lace. :icon14:

Pop,

I found that the best way to attach the bungee cord was to lay down a thread base along the shank and then tie the cord directly to it so that it travels beyond the outside bend of the hook. Do not thread the cord, as it will produce an unnatural "kink" which could affect retrieves.

Nice jig, I thought about doing a jig worm but mine never came out this nice. Just a idea how about braiding chenille past the hook and adding a tail.

Thank you BBFisher. :)

Never tried braiding chenille. I think that furling chenille yarn atop a hook's bend produces a pretty good tail. I've accomplished this quite a bit with eyelash yarn which handles somewhat similarly in my opinion.

Thanks for your reply Pup, but; now I have another question. What is furling chenille? Pop
