I haven't tried this yet but I do know you can pull the bristles from a hair brush . I have done it with a pair of needle nose pliers . They sure look surprisingly like crappie sized weed guards . Just a thought that wondered through my head . Might be of use to someone .

The few times I had a need for fiber guards, I used some el cheapo 40# mono. 20 - 21 strands fit perfectly. the hole size is 1/8".
To assemble, I used a piece of hard plastic air line tubing. 1/8" ID and cut a bunch of 10' pieces of mono and threaded them into the tube. line it up. push em in, used a dab of epoxey in the hole, pull the ttube back a bit, make sure everything is still seated and cut to length, The mono was a dark green

Since you like it, here is a little reference table
Size strands strand dia approx mono
1/8” 24 0.021 30#
1/8” 31 0.018 20#
1/8” 20 0.024 40#
5/32” 35 0.021 30#
5/32” 27 0.024 40#
5/64” 12 0.018 20#
5/64” 7 0.024 40#
1/16” 9 0.015 14#

Usually the cheaper the mono, the stiffer but in this case, stiffer is probably better.
I have seen black, red, green, olive, red. orange, yellow, and blue lines at the discount houses 1/4# spool for a buck or two and you can make a lot of weed guards with 500 yard spool.
