Where and what would be the best and cheapest way to buy bulk feathers/fur/or synthetics for someone just starting out with a small business? You guys here are great and I figured this would be the best place for to get good answers on the subject. I'm going to be tying crappie jigs first.

I wouldn't buy too much bulk just starting out. Bulk ties up a lot of cash that will take a little while to recoup unless you sell a good bit. Once you get established then buy larger quantities. That's just my input.

Well I figured bulk would be cheaper. And I didn't mean enough to last a life time. With any business you have to buy in somewhat larger quantitys otherwise you just break even when you sell. I meant like anyone know of a place that has deals on feathers that isn't from a tackle making catalog. Because I have noticed anything that is in a tackle making catalog quadruples in price that I might be able to find somewhere else. Curious to know if any of you know of any good sites like that? Just a thought. -Mack

I use Jann's Netcraft alot but it is not too far from me. Their shipping prices might make you choke if you have to order off the net. CrazyAngler has good pricing and i have heard good things about TNT tackle and Grandpa Bob's.

For feathers... i would say stick with a tackle company. The quality is by far better! Craft shops have them cheaper, but quality is lacking sometimes and craft feathers can sometimes fade and loose color after getting wet. BUT - don't count out craft stores completley. You can find craft fur for half the price, just make sure it has long hair fibers. The shorter hair stuff works for making dubbing and tying tiny flies though. You may also be able to find full rabbit hides that can be cut by hand to make zonkers.

That should keep you busy for a while. Lol I tie a lot of jigs but I don't buy in bulk. What we should do is get together on some bulk orders and split them up. Can you imagine how much 1 pound of feathers would be when a pack has 1/4 oz in it? We should form a buying club and get feathers and chenille in bulk and devide it up.

Not to put other suppliers down, but Hareline Dubbin provides the few tying supplies I use. Wholesale only one needs to provide tax ID and apply for a commercial tier or dealer account with minimum purchase $50 I think.

When I had my tackle shop I bought every thing by the pound . What feathers do you need . I don't have the new age tying stuff in bulk but I may have a few things that I'd sell at yesterdays prices.

That is kind of the idea I had for my business. Because I know of several places where when I buy in bulk I can offer fishing lure products and supply's cheaper than most. I should be up and running within the next couple months.
