Have gotten an early start to my lunch break fishing this year with a mild spring and not a whole lot of rain. Usually the river is running high right now but it is very close to the point that i might break out the waders soon! I've also been hitting up a small creek......

This creek runs through a large park in town. Would guess i have about 1.5 miles of 'public' land i can walk the bank and is less than 5 mins. from work. I have stopped and fished at 2 other spots along the creek but not sure who actually owns those areas so could very well get kicked off. The park area has some really deep holes in the sharp turns and each hole is seperated by shallow runs. Lots of chubs, rockbass, sunfish, and carp... still have yet to catch a smallie in the little creek.

Found some male Hornyhead Chubs in full spawning colors last week.

Think i might have gotten my PB chub too. :P Notice the difference in color on this one.

One other rockbass with an interesting coloration.

One last pic of a section of the creek... this hole i would guess to be around 5 foot deep but up around the corner it gets shallow and not so wide - can actually jump across to the other bank and not get feet wet.

Last 2 are smallies from the main river. Nothing of any size yet but sure feels nice to get out along the river and catch some fish.

Your jig is nearly the same color as the eyes on that rock bass. Really like your jigs. Obviously the fish like them as well. Those creature looking things you tie look like they coould actually crawl along the bottom of the creek. Wish my lunch breaks looked like yours!

Great pics and fish, Russ. Im jealous. Can't beat working AND fishing.

Just think… if work gave you an extra 30 on that lunch, you could have em filet'd up and fried for the work force to enjoy!
Better get an extra hour if you start using pink though.

Very good post. I enjoyed reading about you fishing spot and the pics are nice. It's amazing how many different species a small body of water will hold.
