Tying up some duck feather jigs.... been practicing these some to make em look right. Honest opinions? These are 1/32-oz.

Really nice! Why do the duck flank feathers I get from Crazy always seem to be bigger than the ones I see you guys using? I love using them, but it seems like 3/4 of the bag are bigger than I want to use.

Bob,just pull them off of the stem and cut them to whatever length you want.

Ok, that's why I'm here lol. I thought you all were just leaving them on the stem and using. I'll give that a try.

blt, I actually prefer the bigger ones over the smaller ones. I can always cut them down to the size I want. Seems like I always get the bag with smaller feathers, bigger feathers are easier to trim.

Thanks very much, guys! I am hoping to put them in front of some slabs soon. I will try and tie my other colors up tonight and post another pic of them.

My feathers all come hand picked straight off the duck. I am kinda picky, and fortunate to be able to pick over all the ducks we shoot. A weekend hunt can yield a year's worth of tying material if we do it right. And then we get to eat..... ;)

I trade for them on the fly tying boards, and we run material swap box's which you can find alot of stuff you might want to try without having to buy it.

Here are the other two color combos I have worked up!
Chartreuse with mallard and red thread, and sapphire with gadwall and chartreuse thread.

Yes sir... I like the darker feather with the dark head. The darker baitfish profile is killer sometimes! I guard my gadwall flank like a Catskill tyer does lemon wood duck! It has accounted for many bluegills hitting the grease the last few years.
