.....into a workable jig for the spinning rod. :jig:

I can't even guess how many river fish i have caught on a gold cone head - pearl chenille body wollybugger. Many of them falling to pieces as continued to catch fish. Just about every species in my local river has fallen for it at one time or another. Picked up some gold tungsten cones recently and made a few new ones. Twisted together pearl and gold tinsel on one and really like it.

The next are my equivalents in jigs. The round head has a slightly oversized (and heavy) hook and would guess it is really close in weight and size to the original tungsten cones. Probably too light weight to be effective for casting much of a distance. The heads-up style is heavier and has an extra long hook as well.

Last are a few others. All black is another that is hard to beat.

Awesome jigs AF. :t-up:

I did some shopping yesterday and found some interesting "accessories" for my weedless sproat hooks. My idea will be to add a painted 1/16 or 1/8-ounce weight to the hook as I tie my pattern. Looking forward to that this week hopefully.

Your jig photography is marvelous.

Thanks for the comments. Problem with the close-up pics is noticing i still have trouble getting things to look right palmering on w.boogers - my start and stop point of the hackle always look a little rough. Never seem to have the correct hackle either. They catch though. :)

Is a mix - some are a tan/ginger color, others are badger, and the all black body has a gray/dun.

First time on a computer screen in a minute and i can def. see a difference. Those are super sharp in every aspect!
I like the paint A LOT. Pearl pepper? Gold translucent? ha

Dunno what you're talking about, Willis..... palmering looks great to me.

Think I need your advice on an affordable good camera.

Awesome flies and jigs. I got to tie some like those to try on my river I fish. The gold and white does look great and black seems to always work. Sweet tyes.

Thanks for the comments. :) :jig:

Actually, my camera is old (8 in technology years is what in dog years?) and only a 4 megapixel resolution. It has both a macro setting and timer which i think are a must if you want to capture lots of close-up detail. Then you just have to play with the lighting and background till you get it all to show up.

Pearl pepper? Gold translucent?

The peppered color is actually a clear/mica mix and then clear/black flake tapped on top. The gold (top jig in 2nd pic) has a very light tap of mica, a healthy dose of gold holographic glitter as a base then the gold transparent tapped on top. Three steps. It is tough to get a thin coat of the transparent on top without getting a blotchy or too dark of gold. They are both on the super shiny lead free heads and that helps to make them so bright - you can see the lines through the paint on the hooks-up heads.

What was the name of that show..... Jeffersons? Different Strokes? I can remember the line and the face.

These jigs are awsome. I joined the site a little while back and have been reading to learn, and I haVe learned alot. I have 2 questions if you could help. What is the size of the cone heads? I have been having problems getting them on the hook. Next, is there a minimum grade of hackle that I should use for the wooly buggers? Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Pop

The cones are a Wapsi product bought at BassPro recently. They are tungsten 6mm diameter and i was able to squeeze them on to #2 Mustad 3366 hooks. They do have a slot on the concave side to help get around the hook bend, but getting past the barb was the tough part. Had to place the cone on a hard surface and force the barb through - it only very slightly bent the barb. Would guess you might be able to get this size cone on a #1 hook, but not any bigger with out doing damage to the barb.

As far as the hackle - i am not picky. They will all get beat up after a few fish anyway. The ones i used on these had pretty large fibers and are actually decent hackles that i got at a local craft shop. They were sold in small packages for .50 and bound together with about 20 feathers, meant to be used as hair decorations. Some had parts of the feather messed up, but i strip off the fibers from one half the feather to do palmering anyway.

Hope this helps - Russ

Attica these are little rippers! They'd go killer over the local flats too! Beautiful ties and colour combos.
