Complete lack of motivation

Guys, I don't know what to think. All motivation for jig tying has gone out the window the last few weeks. The only jigs I've tied have been to catch fish the next day... just refilling the box.
The only "creative" type stuff I've been up to lately is some hex mayfly fly pattern ideas. A few drys and a nymph or two.

Anybody else go through tying slumps?

I HATE July and August. No hunting, fishing gets limited to late evenings and nights... just too dang hot and nothing to do.

Happens to me every summer....

I've not even sat at the tying bench in a month now...Sure enjoy the pics of those that do.

I know it make no since,but another four letter word,(golf) takes over my interest during this HEAT.With my lakes being 1-2 hours away,I get very little fishing time till late August,other than the night fishin we do every couple weeks.

I havn't tied a jig for nine days which might be a record for me. I might do one tommorrow.

I haven't for a little bit either. We have one window air conditioner and it gets used for the livingroom, front bedroom, bathroom and kitchen when I cook (I put a fan in doorway between the livingroom and the kitchen to circulate some of the cool air). That cool air just doesn't quite make it to the back office where the computer is and all my tying gear I might tye some this morning, while it is still cool!

My slump is not being able to tie anything to fill my personal fly boxes. Customer jig orders are booming though... I'm dying to tie up some of Attica's Arkanas Bucktails. I just can't find the time. I get a customers order done and think... "Ah. Time to tie for me!" Then the wife proclaims, "Honey, you got another order!"

Not complaining about getting business.... I enjoy the tying. But I'm seeing my flyboxes starting to empty. I have a Montana flyfishing trip in 60 days and I'm wondering how I'm going to have full boxes for my trip.

It is easy to get into a slump. I have gotten pumped up tying flies in between orders. Since it has got so hot I haven't been to the lakes but got a new Anvil vice for fathers day and man that is a pleasure to tye on.
Order some different kinds of feathers or other materials to work with, may get you tying again but if not don't worry, as it turns cooler you will get back into tying some jigs for the fall bite.

Everyone goes through it from time to time. You're lucky you can tie if you want. I still haven't got the go ahead to play with sharp things yet, keep hoping the phone will ring, and they tell me I can.

I need to show y'all what I've found to be irresistable to bluegills around here... a little 1/32oz dude. Gadwall flank and copper k-flash tail, Crazy's "Brim Buster" chenille, and a black head. Half dozen of them, some black bunny jigs, and a pencil bobber, and that's all I've been using this summer!

Of all the things to get my brain going, I just picked up two bottles of nail polish tonight. Blue and pink. Gonna have to get to soldering ice spoons for October here soon... Jason (pbug) got me turned on to those a year ago, and they do work when tipped with a couple maggots!

Lack of fishing success will curtail my tying urges. Last two times out have been real downers.

You will see something that will catch your eye and be tying like a fool in no time.

I tie alot for different species sine i fish for darn near anything that swims...... maybe shot for a fish that you don't normaly chase much and you will find something that will cross-over to other species.

I must admit that i do end up falling back to only a few main ties for my money maker jigs when i am out on the water. :blush:

My problem is time. Some weeks I work 4 days and others it's a hard 7 days without a chance to breathe. I have a big order of bucktails I'm forcing my way through, and 2 others waiting behind it so I need to get after it. Folks know when I tell em it'll be a while that it might be a week or a month. I'm on vaca this week and just tied a few without thinking of what I was doing and realized that weren't for an order after I was through. I guess I just need my head in the right place before I can get anything out of my head, through my hands, and into reality. I still get the satisfaction of a good finished product. When that stops I'll just sell my stuff.
Read a good book, turn off the pressure, and you'll be back into it before you know it. Early morning, short fishing trips also help me a lot.
