I wanted to make one last trip for channel cats next week before the water gets too cold, but I didn't have any of my favorite cut bait. So I headed out to the local reservoir this morning with the goal of catching some suckers or pikeminnows. I mainly fished with plastics, but I got a couple of pikeminnows along with a nice bonus, a 14" rainbow trout.
I normally C&R trout, but he was the first fish of the day and I figured he would do for cut bait if I didn't catch anything else. When I cut him open, he was stuffed full of baby yellow perch around 2" - 3" long.
So I was thinking it might be fun to tie up some baby perch jigs and try for trout next time I go. Anyone have any good patterns?
