I always recommend Sony camera. Easy to use readily available and pretty reliable. If you don't buy the latest and greatest you can find easy on Ebay for under 100.00

My present model is a DSC-H10 and its been with for 3 yrs and no problems.

CrappieHappy nailed it..... if you want close-up pics, pretty much any point/shoot type camera that has a Macro function will do fine. Most cameras are overkill unless you are wanting to print 8x10 professional photos.

It also helps if you use a tri-pod to steady the camera. I use this one.... it was free with one of my old cameras.

Great advice here. I, too, am of the opinion that as long as you can shoot in macro mode, your photos will become pretty good with practice.

Be sure to search this site for tips on shooting jig pictures. Some really good advice exists in past posts on the board.

Man. Im amazed at the pictures these cameras take nowadays. Even my kids little toy camera works great. I'd be surprised if there isn't something out there for $20 that takes awesome pictures. I use my phone too and the picture is too big so I have to resize it and lose on the quality.

Two suggestions jighead. Most cameras in the settings have a size selection. When I'm taking to post I use the 400x600 setting. 600x800 will work but is a little too big for forum use.

If I forget to change settings there's a great little freeware program that's very small and easy to use for photo adjustments, cropping and resizing. Irfanview.com

Your phone may have settings as RadTex suggested to limit the size (quality) of pics you take on your phone. The smaller pixel size you take them, the smaller the file size, and the more likely the JigCraft forum will let the pictures be posted.

You should be able to 'edit' your phone pics and make them small enough to fit on the forum as attachments from using your phone pictures. But, you may have to run the pictures through an editor software (like Irfanview.com) as Radtexan suggested if you take pictures at a larger size than 800 pixels by 600 pixels at 72DPI resolution. 800x600 pixels DOES work for forums now a days..... recorded stats tell me the vast majority use MUCH higher resolution screens/monitors so do not see why they would not work. 640x480 is a thing of the past in my book. ;)

I use a little fancier software from my 'day job' to edit pictures, but 99.9% of the time if you re-size your pictures down to 800x600 pixels or less and save them as new files, the JigCraft forum will allow them to be posted.

I still wish more people would take pictures as landscape style rather than portrait style pics. Just have to turn your phone sideways when you take the picture. ;) You want the jig to take up as much of the picture as possible so we can see it better!

I take all my pics with my HTC Droid Incredible II and it may take 2-3 attempts but the photo's are pretty good. The lighting is key & a neutral background is also important. My pics are real big too so I edit them all in MS Picture Editor, just reduce them down to Document size.
