I got a good deal on a dozen Rex rabbit hides. These are the hides they use to make bunnybou strips. The hides are fully tanned and the fur is dyed black. They have been squared off to approximately 6" x 12".

I don't actually have the hides yet, and it will probably be a few weeks until they get here since they are coming from Europe. I don't need that many hides, so I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in buying or trading for one or more.

I will probably be selling them for $25 each, shipping included. Fly shops charge about $3.50 for two 1/8" x 12" strips. You can get up to 48 zonker cut strips per hide. You do the math.

I have a tracking number and received notice they were processed through foreign customs today, so they are on their way. I will definitely post some pictures once they get here.

Rabbit hides are here. Rex rabbits have extremely thick underfur with short guard hairs. These hides have the thick underfur, but the guard hairs are longer than usual. Probably why they were willing to let them go for less. The movement underwater is very nice.

Here is a picture of three strips. Top strip is a zonker cut bunnybou strip from Hareline. Second strip is a crosscut standard rabbit strip, also from Hareline. Bottom strip is a crosscut from one of these hides:

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the hair from the third strip is probably twice as dense as the hair on the standard rabbit strip, even though I cut the strip slightly thinner. Thicker hair means you use less hide, so you get more jigs per strip. Here is a RR tied with a skirt using about two inches of the bottom strip:

The hides are squared, but a couple have corner pieces sewn on or sections that have been sewn where the hide had a hole (probably where a limb was located.) Should be easy to work around. The leather is superb. Pliable and scraped thin. I've g0tten strips with thicker leather and thinner hair from the major fly suppliers. I will take pictures of the back of each hide when I get home.

OK, here are the hides I have for sale. They are actually a little bit bigger than I expected. The top 3 are approximately 6" x 14", the bottom 3 vary between 7" x 14" and 8" x 14". You can pick which hide you prefer, first come first served. $25 each shipped. If you want more than one, I'll give you a total by PM.
