I had a few minutes to kill while in town the other day so I went down to the City Marina ... It has a railed walk around for fishing ( will get a pic later) and it is where Lafayette creek runs into 4 mile creek (4 mile was dredged out many years ago so that larger boats and barges could navigate it) Any way it can be a good spot for Spec Trout & Red fish .... So I am chunking by old trusty Scoot A Jig Shrimp Tail when it loads up ... when I finaly landed it you can see what I had .... that is a #905 Hellbender and had brand new hooks ... why some one was chunking it here I don't know .... By the way I was there for 30 minutes and that was my total catch. ;)

That is neat. Haven't seen one of those in years. Might have one in the old tackle box. But a great catch. Bout the only thing like that I catch is old line with a rusty nasty smelling jig on it. Did catch a hoop net this summer but the darn thing broke my line.

Here are the Pixes of the Freeport Marina ... Great Launching Site .. Conjunction of Lafayette Creek and 4 Mile Creek.
4 Mile Creek was dredged many years ago for boat & barge traffic .. in the shot looking back towards the shipyard is where
old time Freeport was located ... Big fire destroyed the whole old town ... Main Barge Traffic is for the Murphy Terminal which has a large capacity for storing and distributing fuel ... the Ship Yard was closed a few years ago but is in the process of being reopened. Across the Creek is the Dry Dock Facility ... Many Specs and Reds have been caught from this point where the creeks come together long before the improvement was made ... I have caught a lot of Bass out of 4 mile and some folks have caught quite few large ones but 3 # is the best I have done. When I took these pixes It was my day to pick up Will & Wes ... Wes (younger 11 year old) had Basketball try outs and we had an hour to kill so of course we just happened to have a couple of rods and few jigs in the back of the old Dakota .... Slow day Will beat me with 3 small specs and I got one ... Some how I managed to hung 3 times and for a change I got my jigs back.

Probably someone didn't know what they had or a kid hawking lures out of gramps and dads box's who knows but those old hellbenders flat out still catch fish.

Man that is a sweet place to fish . One of the most cool setup I've seen in a while . I could sit there all day and snooze in the sun . Wish I had some structures like that around close to fish from . Perfect to take grand babies fishing on.

Beautiful place! Lost of room to fish and it looks like you 2 are the only ones there. Where are all the boats to fill those slips?

Thanx for the hi 5's guys
The place does get a lot of action at times .. this was on Wednesday afternoon after school .(when we were leaving 3 kids were walking in with there fishin stuff) ... I noticed yesterday that some one had "Scribed" a "Measuring Rule" in the railing at one location. When the Trout are "Stacked In" the word gets around and it gets a lot of use ... The Ramp gets a lot of use and up the creek above the Terminal is another improved ramp and parking area. Currently the boat slips are not being used as far as I know .... back on the north end (towards the boat yard) is a long area with piling to keep a vessel from hitting the wall and 2 "I" beams with rods for Cleats are their for docking a big boat or barge .. they left the area back to the parking area unostructed for loading/unloading.
