1st Ties!

Finally it has begun!
First one I tied up is off of a pattern "Deep Blue Posion Tung"
Second one is something I came up with on my own... I am sure someone has done something like it before. I made a half dozen of each. was a total blast tonight!

thanks guys! I have a new found respect for professional tiers. 12 jigs took me like 2 hours!
Also learned a good lesson about dubbing. "less is more" 1st couple of jigs I did I really over loaded the dubbing on the thread, and it got frustrating fast. After spreading it out over more thread it became much more workable. And easier to taper. (See the taper on the black and red.)

Looks like fly patterns converted to jig ties. I'd be very interested if those skinny jig ties work as well as the flies.

Yep. thats about all you will see from me. I am really looking to test jig-flies on my local trout waters.

Looks like a good start with those midge patterns - can't wait to see more. Dubbing is fun to do and there are a few different ways to get it on your thread as well.

How small are we talking here... got a weight on those heads?

Great looking ties!!!!!! One rule of thumb I was given when I first started tying flies and using dubbing - take what you'll think you need - split it in half - then split it in half again. It's amazing how a little bit of dubbing does so much.

You'll find that some of the fly patterns you tie on jigs you need to flip the hook over. I posted this atch (well I hope it showed up) about fly patterns on jig heads. The second page bottom right photo show a nymph pattern, notice what way the hook is in the vise?? That's how you have to tie it so it looks natural.

as far as midges go they are Super-Sized; size 10 sickle hooks, with a 1/32 oz ballhead.
