Took a break from the pony and tied up a belly spinner. For the time it takes to make the pony....what does everyone think on which is better. The pony's take longer to get built and tie in my experience.

Out here...
Hey plate,

First that is a very good lookin jig. Not sure if I'm much help since I don't pour lead, but I don't see any difference in the way they fish. Depending on the diameter of the jig body would be the only concern, but the stuff I use it is not.

Plate for me I don't see a big difference. Takes a few extra seconds to put the crane swivel in the mold but when it's done you have only the materials to tie in, painting a little longer if you put tin foil on the swivels.

On the belly spin your going to pick up that extra time as you have to build a thread base, slip the crane swivel on then tie it in well so it doesn't move. Then tie your jig.

Time pretty well evens itself out between the two. And I don't notice any difference in tying time.

Really nice pattern and the use of silicone strands was nice!!!!! I think FM's method would be the way to go simply because the head is designed for the torque from the blade and I don't see much time saving as to how much time it takes to really secure the swivel with thread. I will say one thing, FM has the nicest pony heads I've seen as he always has a clean swivel without having chipped paint around the swivel or a swivel that has paint on it, I would go with what he advises as he has done both methods.

Nice one plate....Tying isnt much difference between the two IMO.. Ive fished the Ponys for years and still like them in certain situations ,but gaining a little more confidence in the belly's....

Thats an awfully big blade from the pic...what size is that ?

If there's a night that you really don't feel like tying jigs!!!! LOL sit in front of the TV and just tie swivels onto the jigs and then when you really get in the tying mood they're all set and ready to go.
